S/O - Travel Agent

What are your personal reasons for using a TA?  It's something I've never considered- mostly because I'm too cheap to pay someone to do something I could do myself and I actually really enjoy the planning part of a vacation.

I'm just curious as to why people would use one.....

Re: S/O - Travel Agent

  • We used ours for our HM and now for our 1yr anniv. trip.  You don't pay them.  They get paid commission from the resort you choose, is how I understand it.  It's nice to have someone to recommend places & do all the work for you.  Usually they can get better prices too.  Also, they can watch the trip & see if it goes any cheaper at all, for you.  I won't use her for smaller trips, like I didn't use her to come to AZ when we did & stuff, but I appreciate the help & insight for bigger trips.  It's also nice to hear from her, whether it's her personal experience or what she's heard from other clients who went there, what certain resorts are really like.

  • Typically I book all my own vacations- but because we're not sure where we want to go + it's out of country, we decided we wanted to use an agent.

The agents are free, they're paid commission from whom they book with.  Plus it's always very nice to have someone to call if there are flight/hotel issues (we always use a corporate travel agent for work travel and it's saved my butt many a times).

  • For in this country trips, I tend to book on my own, but when I go out of country we use a TA. Specifically speaking my MIL. She doesnt get paid by us, she gets commission off of what she books. Usually not the plane, but the hotel and other things...  It makes my life a lot easier when we are going somewhere totally unfamiliar
