good college or university??

Hi ladies, I wanna start looking into places where I can finish up my Bachelor's degree in nursing.  I already have an associate's in nursing & have taken a few classes (gen. ed.) for my bachelor's, but need to finish up a few of the generals & then start w/the core nursing courses.  Where's a good & fairly cheap/reasonable place to take classes in the Phoenix area that I can do some of it online & have them accept hopefully most all of my classes from PA??  TIA

Re: good college or university??

  • I don't know about the price but check out University of Phoenix online. It's a very well known online school and from what I've heard, it's a good one too.
  • Since you already have your associates in nursing, do you already have a job lined up here in the valley?  If so, you may want to see who they could possibly be partnered with and if they'll pay for school in return for you working for them x amount of time.  I'm a nurse, finished school about 5 years ago, I work within the CHW network and know they have a partnership with Grand Canyon University. Although my understanding from my coworkers is its more like tuition reimbursement than upfront paying.  I did my schooling at Arizona State.  GCU is more expensive than ASU.  My mom did her nurse practitioner program through Univ of Phx and although it gave her the online flexibility it's price was pretty high. It's been awhile, but I don't know how long it takes to be considered "instate" vs "out of state" for tuition. Best bet would be to meet with their counselors online, all the schools are so picky as to what they'll accept from other schools. Plus they'd be able to give you a good idea of their program and how much online schooling is offered.

Good luck on your upcoming move!

  • I don't think you're going to find a "cheap" option.  The only options really are to go to one of the campus Universities (ASU, GCU) or University of Phoenix.

You could also look into the extended campus programs that Northern Arizona University offers.  I'm not sure if they have a nursing program, but they might.  NAU is currently running courses through the community colleges down here for Bachelors degrees (and they offer online as well).

Either way, you're looking at probably around $1500-2000 per 3 credit hour course.  This isn't taking into consideration non-residency...which of course is much higher.

I would definitely try and see about finding a job with tuition reimbursement.

  • In Surprise there is a communiversity that offers different programs through differenty schools, they have in class and online options.  you might want to check it out. :)

  • Thanks so much for your help ladies.  I completely overlooked the fact that I'd be considered an out-of-state resident for a period of time.  I don't have a job lined up yet, but tuition reimbursement is def. something I'll be looking for.  Thanks for letting me know some of the options.  That's how they do it here...the hospital will reimburse you when you show them the bill.  Then if you fail the class, you have to pay it back.  I guess I just figured that most of the schools out there would offer part of, or the whole, BSN program online.  That's how a lot of them are around here.  You can take most all or all of the classes online, so you can easily still work while you're doing it.  Guess I should've added that I'll only be taking classes part time while I work full time.
