DMV question

DPS phone line is busy - does anyone know if I can pay in cash or debit card for an updated driver's license? I thought there was something weird that they wouldn't accept. Have to go in person for a photo. Poops.

Re: DMV question

  • cash only and it's like $10 or $12

  • ooh, also- if you have one bring your passport. When I was in there after my name change a bunch of people were being turned away because they didn't have their passports. Apparently they updated their system last year and they need verification that random people are US citizens. If you are one of those random people they have to see your passport. One person they turned away was in military fatigues- um, pretty sure she was a citizen...

What would they do if you didn't have a passport?

  • I think birth certificate. It was very weird, people were getting super pissed because nothing on the instructions of how to renew your drivers liscence says that you should bring it. plus when you have had one for decades, you would think you were good to go..

That's odd.  DH and I both just renewed and nobody mentioned anything abou passports.  I wonder if that's for people who haven't yet had a TX DL?  I think DH and I both paid $25, but we got 6-year renewals.  Cash or check only.

I can understand getting upset.  Nothing's worse than going out of your way to do an errand and finding out you're missing something.

  • If you can get to the Georgetown office, the line is a lot shorter and faster.  I was there a lot when I was trying to get my license number changed after my wallet was stolen.  Mornings seemed better than afternoons.
