Sucanat

A friend asked if I wanted to go on a bulk order of sucanat with her. Any buzz about it?

Re: Sucanat

  • A couple gals on the What's Cooking board who do clean eating swear by it. I've only been able to find it online and in Whole Foods, but I refuse to shop there and am too cheap to pay shipping unless I know I"ll like it. :-p Apparently it's brown-sugar-like? I'm sure you can find more info just by googling, or check out TPOX or GRKaters' blogs.
  • Yep, I use it! :) Wherever white or brown sugar are called for, it can be subbed equally. I think there is a sucanat tag in my blog.

  • i love sucanat, i have been using it for almost 10 years. definitely not as sweet as refined sugar.
  • One thing to keep in mind is it doesn't really melt liek regular sugar.  My sis and I made cinnamon rolls, and we melted butter, succanat and cinamon together.  With regular sugar it would have all melted into a syrup, with the Succanat, it was more like a butter/succanat slurry with chunbks of succanat.  Still tasted fine, and not noticable once baked, but maybe it would matter in certain dishes.
