Sea World / San Diego Zoo Q

Hi ladies,

DH and I are still planning our trip in May and we wanted to know if these 2 places were all day events. Will we end up spending the entire day at Sea world, or can we fit both of them in one day?

TIA :)

Re: Sea World / San Diego Zoo Q

  • Sea World you can do in about half a day. However, the San Diego Zoo is definitely an all day adventure. The place is HUGE. I would definitely block a whole day for that. I know it's farther away, but a possible option is the San Diego Wild Animal Park. It's smaller so you can spend less time there.

I guess it just depends on what you really want to see while at the parks. Like our big thing was to see the monkeys at the Zoo and of course, they are on the farthest part of the park so it's a trek. But if you stay in other areas I'm sure you can squeeze them both in one day. Just be prepared to be exhausted.

     Hope this helps.

Ditto this...except that honestly, I wouldn't try to fit the Wild Animal Park into half a day. It's smaller, but you have to walk a LOT between enclosures - the last time I went there was in 2004, and my feet were killing me and I was exhausted by the end of the day. Of course, I'm also a big ole wuss lol.

But honestly, I'd just plan for a full day at each park (Sea World and either the Zoo or the WAP) so that you don't feel tired and stressed trying to get through everything at each place in half a day.

  • So having lived in San Diego for many many years, I would say that the San Diego zoo is DEFINITELY a full day event.  No questions asked.  I suppose you could walk in half a day, but why would you?  I personally love to just stare at animals and that probably takes up most of my day there.  :)

But we did do the Wild Animal Park in much less time.  You could actually do that in half a day if you wanted.  But if it were me, I would do the Zoo and Sea World.  Since they are different types of animals.  Sea World can be made into a full day, just depending on how much you like to do there.  But definitely don't try and do the Animal Park and Sea World in one day.  Won't happen.  Way too far apart to enjoy yourself!

Whatever you do, eat some really good mexican food for me!  And if you need any suggestions for restaurants or other sights, let me know, I can definitely help you out!!

  • we LOVE the sd zoo - especially the pandas!  and the polar bears!  and the koalas!  and ...I could go on.  we spent like, 30 min watching one of the elephants get a pedicure last time we were there.  as everyone else said, you can definitely stay an entire day.  we've done it in a half day before, b/c we didn't have a choice, but it was really rushed and i feel like we missed half the zoo - it was much nicer to spend an entire day there.  i've never been to the wild animal park, but really want to check it out next time we're there.  it's just always so hard to choose between the two - i love the zoo so much we always end up going back.

i haven't been to sea world in probably 20 years, but back then, i could stay an entire day =)

have fun in san diego!  i love visiting...

  • I have yet to visit SD zoo myself, but ditto on pp about Sea World. You definitely don't need more than one day for Sea World and if you only want to catch just the main/better shows, half a day is definitely doable. GL planning!
