Anyone else following Olympic Gymnastics?

This new scoring method is bogus!  There's a REASON you eliminate the highest and lowest scores - bringing them back in order to break a tie makes no sense!

I think one of the biggest problems is actually the fact that you can't have a judge from a country that is competing in the event - so we get stuck with judges from places like Bulgaria!!

I just feel bad for Nastia Lukin!

Re: Anyone else following Olympic Gymnastics?

  • It is all shades of crazy! Plus, I think the whole China aga saga will play out for years and years. I can imagine the US girls getting calls several years from now and it will be the IOC giving them their proper models since the Chinese cheated.
  • what is unfortunate is all these sports are always politcal...ice skaing, gymnastics, any sport that is judged and critiqued.

I have watched this sort of stuff when I competed my whole life twirling baton and dancing.  The industry is chock full of it.

That is why things like track and field are great...pretty cut and dry results there.

Did anyone think the gymnastic talent from the USA has gone down a bit in recent years?  The girls were just not as enjoyable to me this Olympics as I have seen in past years.  I appreciate these athletes' athleticism, but the routines on all aparatuses this time around just left me kinda blah.

Now the rythmic gymnastics, so so so underrated but one of the most facsinating things to watch in Olympics.  Holy moly.

  • I agree that rhythmic gymnastics is cool, but I disagree about track and field being cut & dry.  I'm not getting too excited about that Yussien Bolt guy yet because I half expect him to be stripped of his medals like Marion Jones and Michael Johnson were.  I was really disappointed when that happened because I enjoyed following them.
  • Johnson lost it because of a teammate in a relay. He didn't do anything wrong and has never been trouble or found guilty of anything. (I knew him when he was at Baylor.) He is regarded highly in the world of track of field.

I agree that track and field isn't dry . . . too many issues with doping abound. That being said, it has gotten better.

Every sport has some "issue". (example -- the LZR racer in swimming)

All that being said, I love the Olympics an have been watching just about everything.

Oh, as far as Bolt -- that guy is just insane! His body is the reason he won -- he makes it look so easy b/c is stride is crazy long and he has a major advantage. They finally found a big guy that can get out fast . . . it made all the difference.

  • Oh with track I just meant the winner result is really cut and dry.  No scores on the races...just who passes first.  I realize there is behind the scenes stuff with steroids and such.

I guess every sport does have its flaws.
