Tip for Tomato Growers

To prevent blossom end rot, swish some water in the milk gallon after you've used the last drop and pour it around the base of tomato plant.  When you plant tomatoes, crush some some eggshells and add them to the hole when planting tomatoes.

Re: Tip for Tomato Growers

  • Interesting, thanks!  Have you used this yourself?
  • Yep.  I first experienced it several years ago and Googled and this is what I found.  I've never had BER since.

Sometimes, BER is not a lack og calcium issue.  I know I get BER when we don't get enough rain. Desert soils have an over-abundance of calcium.  But you need enough water to transport the calcium.

Sprinkling Epson salts in your veggie beds also helps.

another thing that works is to put several fish heads into the hole before planting the tomato.
