Door County

Hello!  I'm mostly a lurker on the MN board, but my mom and I are planning a girl's trip to Door County this summer so I thought some of you might be helpful.  I went to the website www.doorcounty.com - but it is a little overwhelming as there is SO much to do there!

Have any of you been there?  Do you have activities/places you'd recommend?  We are looking to hike and shop mostly, but are open to all ideas.

Thanks!

Re: Door County

  • We went last fall for our honeymoon and really enjoyed Peninsula State Park for hiking and Shipwrecked Brewery and Restaurant in Egg Harbor for lunch. We also found this cute little place called Good Eggs in Ephraim which serves breakfast burritos to your liking.... we've joked that we would go back just to eat at Good Eggs again.  One night we also went to the Hands-On Art Studio outside of Fish Creek- I talked my husband into going because on Friday nights they have a live band and you can bring in your own wine to drink! Turns out he actually enjoyed the crafty part of it also. Other ideas include wine tastings as they have several wineries in the area.
  • I LOVE Door County and have gone there just about every year since I was little.

I always make sure to go to The White Gull Inn for breakfast.  They have great food and I love the atmosphere.  Also, if you want to try a fish boil, that's the place to go, IMO.

If you like a good fish fry, the Sister Bay Bowl is the place to go on a Friday night for fish.  It's the best that I've had in DC.

If you are going in Summer when the Folklore Theater is playing, I highly recommend attending one of their evening perfomances.  It's outside in Pennisula State Park in the woods.  The performances are professional and hilarious!

In Sister Bay they have boat tours.  It's really interesting and not very expensive.  You get to see the million dollar homes from the water plus get a history lesson of Door County.

Fish Creek is great for shopping.  Egg Harbor has a little shopping mall, but I still prefer the little shops along the main street in Fish Creek...especially if it's nice weather.

Wine tasting/tours are fun too.  Door Penninsula Winery has free wine tasting, but their tour isn't the greatest.  I do love the wine tasting part though!

The outdoor theater in Fish Creek is fun to go to, too.

Seaquist in Sister Bay is fun to browse through.  They have different food items made with cherries and other fruits that you can taste and purchase.  Their cherry pie is great.  I always go home with several jars of chopped cherry jam.

I recommend taking part of a day to drive around and just explore the different areas.  It's hard to get lost there!

Have fun! You will want to go back!  It's so relaxing.

    PitaPata Dog tickers
  • i worked up there in summers during college,

you have to eat at the Cookery in Fish Creek,  they have the best white fish chowder.  (thats where i worked)  you will probably leave with some of there homemade jams

definitley see the shops in fish creek,  also the penisula players have great outdoor theatre.

Eat Ice Cream at Wilson's in Ephraiam

  • I frequently visit there and always have stayed in Fish Creek where you will find a ton of shopping and great food.  The Cookery was revamped last summer but is comepletely awesome.  Great food and a great wine selection.

The park is the place to go for activities as stated earlier.  Also, check out Stone's Throw Winery - it is great and its not all the fruit wines but wines blended and stored in WI from Cali grapes.

     Have fun!
