I recently started to train for a tri and was wondering if you guys could rec a good website to buy some jerseys from.  Looks like they can get pretty expensive.  Also what is your favorite brand shorts to wear?

TIA!

Re: Where to buy Bicycle Jerseys?

  • I don't cycle (yet), but I love eGel when I run, and they have some cycling jerseys on their website...but they say eGel on them. I'm not sure if you want to be a moving advertisement. Not being snarky, but have you thought to look it up on google? Or Upromise if you are signed up with that program.

  • Do you want cycling jerseys or triathlete wear?

    My favorite sites:

www.terrybicycles,com, www.teamestrogen.com (LOVE Susan and her staff! They have both trigeek wear and cycling clothing), www.performancebike.com, www.coloradocyclist.com, www.voler, com, www.rei.com, and www.rei-outlet.com.

If you want some more affordable clothes, look on rei-outlet.com. Also, REI's house brand Novara is pretty good.

As for what brands are best, it's like anything else. All of the major brands make a quality product. Find what fits you. My favorite shorts are my last year's team shorts from Louis Garneau with a chamois that was put in custom for me. (er...I chose the one I wanted out of their catalog). I really like Voler jerseys.

  • Yeah I did a google search last night, tons of sights came up and I saw some pretty expensive Jerseys, which was why I why trying to get some insider information here.

Being new to the sport I'm a little overwhelmed with all the gadgets/gear clothing that is out there.  Want to look cuteand feel comfortable in the gear but don't want to break my budget anymore than I have after I bought a bike/wetsuit etc for my tri.

     Thanks

it's not a fashion show, you don't need to look cute. I have slowly bought all of my gear. I get one or two things each year. Last year a bike computer, this year a new bike.Heck you could even do your first triathlon on a mountain bike and no one would care. This year I'll probably also get a new pair of tri short and a top. You can rent wetsuits as well. If you are doing a sprint you don't even need a wetsuit.

  • Sadelbred- thanks for your response.  I actually came across teamestrogen.com, looks like they have a good selection and range in prices.

I know it?s not a fashion show, but if I have to buy clothes why not have them look cute as well as functional?  Was just trying to get ideas if there were websites that people on this board prefer to go to b/c of the service/costs.

Actually I joined a team and we committed to having a road bike and a wet suit, so while some people slowly lay out the money for all these expenses, I took the hit all at once, completely by choice.  I'm just trying to save on the items that I want, not necessarily committed to like a bike jersey.  Hence my post on the topic.

provide all styles of bicycle jerseys such as: cycling bottoms, cycling tops, cycling bib shorts, cycling suits series
  • Try Nashbar and PricePoint. That is where we buy all of our stuff.
  • I've bought from Nashbar before. But I also did my first tri in a running top instead of a bike jersey...and plain old spandex shorts.

the transition times do count towards your total time, so the less you're changing gear the better.

if I had to pick tri-gear to spend money on it would be a wetsuit (hi northern new england, wetsuits are often required due to water temps) and cycling shoes.  my plan would be sports bra and spandex under the wetsuit, then throw a running shirt with my number on it over my sports bra headed into the bike, then the only thing I have to worry about headed into the run is helmet off and changing my shoes.
