Ques on leaving a computer in storage

I am moving to China & I am bringing my laptop, but I am not going to bring my desktop. Its a Mac desktop, about 1.5-2 years old. Can it be stored in storage for an entire year? Or should I leave it with my mom & dad who can use it now and then (they have their own)?

Thanks

Re: Ques on leaving a computer in storage

  • Assuming you're using a reputable temperature, humidity-controlled storage facility, you shouldn't encounter any problems. It's not like it needs to be turned on every two months or anything (although you will likely have many updates to install when you return).  I suggest you back-up everything of value using an online service (i.e. Mozy) or external hard drive before you leave it anywhere, if you do not do this already.  If it were me, I envisioned using it again in the future, and my parents had space, I would leave it with them.
