Palm oil is in the organic peanut butter i buy, but I think I heard it was bad. Is it bad? Why?
Re: palm oil?
The deforestation caused by planting palm oil plantations is destroying oragutan (sp) habitat, which are critically endangered. Here's a good report about it.
Palm oil threatening endangered species
A lot of times palm plantations are located in Indonesia. They cut down the rainforests where animals live to plant the plantations. The Palm plantations have a direct impact on animals that are critically endangered like the Bornean Orangutan.
If you google Palm Oil, the World Wildlife Fund and Orangutans, there is good, credible information about it.
Even organic products do not always source their palm oil from from sustainable sources.
