hi ladies.
my family and i are visiting relatives in TN, but we want to go to nashville for a couple of days. we want to stay in downtow nashville. we already checked out the grand ole opry and it was sold out on our dates.
we were looking at the union station - wyndham. it looked a little far from the other cluster of hotels, so i was wondering where a good area/place was to stay. or good places to visit. i wanted to check out the zoo.
TIA!
Megan
Re: visiting nashville
Union Station is actually a much better location than Opry, in my opinion. The Opry hotel is not close to the attractions on Lower Broadway/downtown. If you stay anywhere in the West End/Vandy/Downtown area, you'll be good!
If you're in that area, you can easily get to the Country Music Hall of Fame, Ryman (home to the original Grand Ole Opry), Tootsie's, Robert's and the rest of the honky tonks. Also, Hatch Show Print, Frist Art Museum, and Centennial Park.
There are some other places, like Cheekwood Botanical Gardens, Belle Meade Plantation, The Hermitage, and the Zoo, which are a little bit of a drive. Nothing too far away, though. FYI - I wouldn't bend over backwards to get to the zoo if I were you...it's cute, but nothing spectacular when compared to larger zoos. The grounds are very nice, though. Just want you to be prepared!
I just moved here, so I really don't have any advice...but, I agree with PP, the zoo is really nice, but if I would make a point of going there. We have a membership, but I have 2 kids and we plan on going every week. Otherwise, I've been to better zoos.
