I was recently stunned to discover that the man I married has never seen The Godfather. EVER. Clearly I should have vetted his knowledge of classic modern cinema before I said "I do." Are there any big, famous movies that you "should" have seen but haven't (or, if you can't think of any, how about one that you did see and weren't impressed by)?
Re: Poll of Randomness for the weekend
When you were little (let's say 5-10 yrs old), what did you want to be when you grew up? Heh, well when I was really little I wanted to either be Snow White or Sleeping Beauty. Clearly I was a child grounded in reality (although I realized I couldn't be either because I had neither black or blonde hair).
A little older and it was a toss up between a ballerina and a race horse breeder. I was a weird little kid.
Take a look at this link of the worst fast food fails and then tell me: a) which of these things do you think is the grossest and b) which one would you eat if you were paid $5k? a) the popcorn on the table at Burger King - the idea of that sitting out there in such a germy environment is just....GAG! b) I'd eat the BK veggie burger. I like veggie burgers, although I've never tried theirs and it looks the least disgusting!
If you were on death row, what would your last meal be? Let's see...sushi - a huge buffet of it. And some really good pepperoni pizza. For dessert, a cinnamon roll, some creme brulee and apple pie a la mode. Oh, and a dirty vodka martini, if we can have booze.
Tell me something good that happened to you over the last week: I know that lately it's all baby related, all the time with me (sorry!
) but I hit 36 weeks - on Monday by my regular doctor's estimation and yesterday by the hospital's calculation (remember that travesty)? So now we can stay here at the local hospital no matter when I go into labor. Yaaaay!
You're offered your dream job, along with an awesome salary. But taking it would mean you have to live all the way across the country from your family. Would you accept, or would you choose to stay closer to home? Absolutely accept. I love love love my family, but they also make me crazy. I forget how much until I go and stay with them for a week lol. (Well, except my dad and stepmom - we seem to have a better dynamic.) Plus I could always visit!
Men with long hair (we'll define "long" as past chin length): yay or nay? Nay. Very, very nay. Anything longer than a couple of inches is too long for me. I like 'em well trimmed.
What was your all time favorite childhood dessert? Lemon meringue pie. Man I loved that stuff. Actually, I still do. I know it's not exactly a highbrow dessert, but I freaking love it. Maybe I should add that to my last meal dessert list.
Let's go back in time to...wedding planning! Did you enjoy planning your wedding, or was it a stressful chore that you're glad is over? What was your favorite part? Least favorite part? Ummm...equal parts of both. I enjoyed the planning aspect, but it was VERY stressful because of issues with our families, and I'm glad it's done. My favorite part was probably doing the invites - I really loved how they turned out and was super proud of them! My least favorite part had to be planning the Aussie AHR - MIL and I butted heads over that soooo much (I recently found out she called me a bridezilla when I put my foot down over how many people would be invited because we were paying for a good chunk of the event - she wanted to invite a ton of random people that we didn't even know...kinda pissed me off all over again!).
Sum up your feelings on macaroni and cheese in three words or less: Nom. Nom. Nom.
I think I've seen most of the classics, but one that I just don't get the hoopla over is Citizen Kane. It was OK, but the greatest movie EVER? I don't think so. I actually fell asleep during part of it, and I very, very rarely fall asleep while watching a movie.
When you were little (let's say 5-10 yrs old), what did you want to be when you grew up? A veterinarian or a pilot. I loved animals and grew up near our tiny municipal airport, so I was fascinated with flight.
Take a look at this link of the worst fast food fails and then tell me: a) which of these things do you think is the grossest and b) which one would you eat if you were paid $5k? a) the grossest for me would definitely be the McLobster....I DON'T eat seafood...ever. But I loooooove brats, so I'd totally eat a brat at McD's (if I ever ate there, which I don't anymore). And I have actually eaten an Arch Deluxe when I worked there in high school. It was....mostly just kind of boring.
If you were on death row, what would your last meal be? Either spaghetti and really garlicky garlic bread or filet mignon with mashed potatoes....hell, both!
Tell me something good that happened to you over the last week: I passed my GD test with flying colors!!!! I was really nervous, since my mom and grandma are diabetic (both starting in pregnancy and never stopping), but I had a 92!!!
You're offered your dream job, along with an awesome salary. But taking it would mean you have to live all the way across the country from your family. Would you accept, or would you choose to stay closer to home? Yeah. I already live a six-hour drive from most of my fam, so it wouldn't make that much of a difference, I'd miss my sister though (the only family member who live near me).
Men with long hair (we'll define "long" as past chin length): yay or nay? Nay. I'll admit there are a few men who can pull it off well, but most men I like much better with very short hair.
What was your all time favorite childhood dessert? Strawberry shortcake. Mmmmmm...I could go for some now!
Let's go back in time to...wedding planning! Did you enjoy planning your wedding, or was it a stressful chore that you're glad is over? What was your favorite part? Least favorite part? I did enjoy it, but the money part was very stressful (we paid for it all ourselves). My favorite part of anything having to do with the dress....shopping, fittings, accessories, etc. My least favorite was probably registering. MH and I got in a fight in Crate and Barrel, and in general, it wasn't as much fun as I thought it'd be. I was uncomfortable basically telling people what to buy for us.
Sum up your feelings on macaroni and cheese in three words or less: Want every day!
Ummmmm...most of them! I, too, have never seen "The Godfather." Or "Rocky." Or "Star Wars" (Okay, I was forced to watch the first one a long time ago, but thought it was dumb and never saw any of the others). I'm sure there are any others, but that's all I can think of at the moment.
When you were little (let's say 5-10 yrs old), what did you want to be when you grew up? A dancer. I still regret that I quit doing it when I was in my early 20s, but I did spend 18 years of my life in a dance studio.
Take a look at this link of the worst fast food fails and then tell me: a) which of these things do you think is the grossest and b) which one would you eat if you were paid $5k? Grossest - either the McLobster or the KFC chicken livers. Never trust fish at a fat food restaurant. And there is really no reason whatsoever to eat organs. If I were paid $5K I'd eat several of those things, but I think the Taco Bell "Bell Beefer" would top the list.
If you were on death row, what would your last meal be? Mac and cheese
Tell me something good that happened to you over the last week: I had an amazng week so lots of good stuff happened. At the top, I made my fundraising minimum for the Avon Walk so I could complete the online check-in (which is HUGE if you've ever seen the check-in lines), and I won 10 weeks of social media coaching from a local PR Firm to help me launch my new salon.
You're offered your dream job, along with an awesome salary. But taking it would mean you have to live all the way across the country from your family. Would you accept, or would you choose to stay closer to home? Accept
Men with long hair (we'll define "long" as past chin length): yay or nay? Not just nay, but HELL nay.
What was your all time favorite childhood dessert? Apple crisp
Let's go back in time to...wedding planning! Did you enjoy planning your wedding, or was it a stressful chore that you're glad is over? What was your favorite part? Least favorite part? I'm glad it's over. My favorite part was discovering new things about Hawaii, and I loved my 'welcome' boxes that each family received before they left for the islands. Least favorite.....dealing with the best man's girlfriend (now skanky wife) the week before the wedding. I am just not someone that stresses over details so wedding planning was sort of meh to me.
Sum up your feelings on macaroni and cheese in three words or less: Best food ever
I don't know, I'm not much of a movie person at all. Todd, however, is shocked at some of the movies I haven't seen. I should ask him this question.
When you were little (let's say 5-10 yrs old), what did you want to be when you grew up? A teacher - it was between a special education teacher or little kids. And later it switched to a lawyer.
Take a look at this link of the worst fast food fails and then tell me: a) which of these things do you think is the grossest and b) which one would you eat if you were paid $5k? Oh wow... I didn't even know this stuff existed. I would have to say the grossest things were the McLobster and the Chicken Livers. I would say for $5000.00 I would eat... well... almost any of those. $5K is a lot of money - to me - and to have to eat one of those things, it would be absolutely be worth it. I may gag while eating it and want to throw up after, but at least I'd be 5K richer.
If you were on death row, what would your last meal be? Sushi (a few different rolls), cheese pizza, with a side cream and penne pasta from the commissary on base. For dessert... oh dear Lord the list could go on and on.
Tell me something good that happened to you over the last week: Is it bad I had to really think hard to answer this one? It's been such a long, busy and stressful week, I had a hard time thinking of something good that happened to me. So I guess I am just glad it was a very productive week so that's good. I still have a ton to do and I'm going to be gone all next week but I'm glad I got a lot done.
You're offered your dream job, along with an awesome salary. But taking it would mean you have to live all the way across the country from your family. Would you accept, or would you choose to stay closer to home? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I have the job I want but with a horrible salary... and I'm still not only across the country from my family, but I'm two oceans away from them. So I'd have to say I would accept... especially if it had an awesome salary because I could go home to Hawaii much more often than I do now.
Men with long hair (we'll define "long" as past chin length): yay or nay? Nay... definitely nay. Some guys can pull it off but for the most part I am definitely nay.
What was your all time favorite childhood dessert? I want to say candy - I loved candy, all types of candy, and I still do like candy (just not as many types as before). But I also loved guava cake and wanted it for my birthday every year.
Let's go back in time to...wedding planning! Did you enjoy planning your wedding, or was it a stressful chore that you're glad is over? What was your favorite part? Least favorite part? I wanted to enjoy it and I think I would have enjoyed it a lot more if I was in Hawaii, not moving to a foreign country, not starting a new job and didn't move into a home with no internet. So I am very glad it is over. My favorite part was picking out the desserts.... that was easy, Evelyn was amazing to work with, and they turned out absolutely perfect. Least favorite was dealing with my step mom.... and all the things she kept trying to throw in there.
Sum up your feelings on macaroni and cheese in three words or less: I LOVE cheese!
Um.... I haven't seen The Godfather. I know, I know. I also haven't seen any of the Star Wars (old and new), any of the Rockys, Lord of the Rings, Casablanca... basically almost any big, famous movies. I blame it on growing up on a rock in the middle of the ocean... and my parents for not educating me.
This was fun Lisa.... thanks for always coming up with such interesting, fun and absolutely random polls!
Ok after reading the responses I am cracking up....
Lisa - can I add everything you have on your death row menu to my list??? How could I forget alcohol? I want an apple pie ala mode so bad right now.
Leah - I am so glad I'm not the only one who hasn't seen any of those movies. MH shuns me for not seeing any of these.
Amy - cracking up over your response to long hair on men: not just nay, but HELL NAY! HAHAHAHA
When you were little (let's say 5-10 yrs old), what did you want to be when you grew up? A writer - there's a note on my kindergarten report card saying "Alyson loves to write things down."
Take a look at this link of the worst fast food fails and then tell me: a) which of these things do you think is the grossest and b) which one would you eat if you were paid $5k? Okay, I've HAD the McLobster. I used to live in the Maritimes... and it's AWESOME. The chicken livers look gross, but I'd probably eat any of those things for way less than $5k!
If you were on death row, what would your last meal be? Something cheesy, because I'm allergic to it and wouldn't have to worry about the consequences! I'd be dead!
Tell me something good that happened to you over the last week: My job hasn't been cut (yet)!
You're offered your dream job, along with an awesome salary. But taking it would mean you have to live all the way across the country from your family. Would you accept, or would you choose to stay closer to home? Oh, I'd be gone. I already live 4 hours from my family and across the ocean from his.
Men with long hair (we'll define "long" as past chin length): yay or nay? Nay. But I believe that 'fros are totally awesome.
What was your all time favorite childhood dessert? Hot Tin Roof ice cream.
Let's go back in time to...wedding planning! Did you enjoy planning your wedding, or was it a stressful chore that you're glad is over? What was your favorite part? Least favorite part? Loved it! It was stress free with the exception of some guest drama. Best part was hanging with all my friends in Hawai'i, the dress, learning how to use photoshop... anything crafty!
Sum up your feelings on macaroni and cheese in three words or less:makes me sick. =(
I was recently stunned to discover that the man I married has never seen The Godfather. EVER. Clearly I should have vetted his knowledge of classic modern cinema before I said "I do." Are there any big, famous movies that you "should" have seen but haven't (or, if you can't think of any, how about one that you did see and weren't impressed by)? Forest Gump... I go to the theatre maybe once a year... probably more like once every year and a half. Movies stress me out.

Tell me something good that happened to you over the last week:
I left work on Wednesday while it was still light out! It's been months since I've done that. I had a dr's appt at 5pm then didn't go back to work after that - it was 85 degrees here in the city so i went and got some gelato and walked around the farmers market in union square. It was awesome.
You're offered your dream job, along with an awesome salary. But taking it would mean you have to live all the way across the country from your family. Would you accept, or would you choose to stay closer to home?

Tell me something good that happened to you over the last week: When I came last night from a date night wiht my hubby, my sister-in-law sent me a belated birthday gift....a mini book called "Sistas" and all things she & I have done together since being introduced into the family. It totally made me cry, a good cry.
You're offered your dream job, along with an awesome salary. But taking it would mean you have to live all the way across the country from your family. Would you accept, or would you choose to stay closer to home? Ohh yaaa! Have a great family, but I do like the space. Absence really makes the heart grow fonder.
Men with long hair (we'll define "long" as past chin length): yay or nay? Big Nay!!! I might sound old fashioned, but men really should have short hair. Clean cut or even the bald look on certain men look great!
What was your all time favorite childhood dessert? My Omma's homemade baked German Rum & Raisan Cheescake.
Let's go back in time to...wedding planning! Did you enjoy planning your wedding, or was it a stressful chore that you're glad is over? What was your favorite part? Least favorite part? Well some parts yes and some parts not so much. I think there were certain people, who seemed to forget who's wedding it was! It was very dishearting. When all was said and done, it turned out the way DH & I both wanted, very laid back & fun!

i was forced to sit through all 3 original star wars though, against my will, by my bff in 5th grade. as a child, i was the biggest scaredy cat when it came to movies - i never got past the siamese cats in lady and tramp, and to this day have never seen the rest of the movie. i also remember being terrified of sound of music, though friends now insist there's nothing scary in there...i wouldn't know, since i still haven't seen it again. i go to the theater about once a year - the only must-see movies in our household are the pixar ones. i am, however, really looking forward to satc2 and will definitely watch that in the theater (hah)
SHUN. This also goes for you other ladies who mentioned this movie.
LOL kidding but I'm always amazed whenever I find out that someone doesn't like or hasn't seen Star Wars (the original trilogy, not the crappy additions)...I grew up on them so they have a special place in my heart.
OMG Amy - this is awesome!
Also, I think Anna should get a special prize for inventing a new word: brownedontop

Fun poll!!
When you were little (let's say 5-10 yrs old), what did you want to be when you grew up? Flight attendant was my dream job.
Take a look at this link of the worst fast food fails and then tell me: a) which of these things do you think is the grossest and b) which one would you eat if you were paid $5k? Grossest for me is probably the fried liver or the hula burger (really?? just pineapple on a bun - yuck!) but for $5K, I could eat any one (just one right?) of the them.
If you were on death row, what would your last meal be? A nice medium-rare steak - filet mignon or new york - sizzling in butter and some nice red wine to go with it.
Tell me something good that happened to you over the last week: Managed to help mom finish her taxes and MH is with me for the weekend.
You're offered your dream job, along with an awesome salary. But taking it would mean you have to live all the way across the country from your family. Would you accept, or would you choose to stay closer to home? I did it, I accepted my dream job with the awesome package- I'm now 5000 miles from my family and over 2000 miles from MH half the time. So far, despite a few sacrifices, totally worth it!
Men with long hair (we'll define "long" as past chin length): yay or nay? No - definitely not for me. Probably wrong but men with long hair make me think high-maintenance and lots of hair product.
What was your all time favorite childhood dessert? Haupia cake (coconut cake) especially if it was from Delite bakery in Hawaii, was my all time favorite. I would eat half a cake in one sitting as often as possible.
Let's go back in time to...wedding planning! Did you enjoy planning your wedding, or was it a stressful chore that you're glad is over? What was your favorite part? Least favorite part? It was a little stressful so I'm glad it's over - I was not sad in the least bit to see an end to the planning. My favorite part was see the day come together and during the planning process making the invitations and learning to letterpress, least was organizing family things during wedding week.

I must have lived in a bubble because I didn't see lots of the "classics" either - The Godfather, Caddyshack, Airplane, any of SNL (those are the ones that friends and co-workers quoted while I just stand there looking blank and lost). Lucky for me, MH must have had a similar bubble.
I've always had a hard time with Lisa's polls of randomness because I want to answer it all but I think I get a little overwhelmed by how many questions there are. Can we do random poll posts with 1 or 2 questions sometimes? I think it's just me, ignore me,
Anyway:
When you were little (let's say 5-10 yrs old), what did you want to be when you grew up?
an actress, but my uncle told me that there were already all the allowed actors in Hollywood and there was no room for anymore, and I believed him!
Take a look at this link of the worst fast food fails and then tell me: a) which of these things do you think is the grossest and b) which one would you eat if you were paid $5k?
i couldn't find all 15. I've eaten the BK veggie burger, it was pretty gross. I didn't like the fact that it had whole pieces of vegetables in it, but not in a good way.
If you were on death row, what would your last meal be?
ack, too hard, I love all foods too much! hmmm.... tofu pad see ew made not too sweet, no eggs, add sprouts, with chinese broccoli. brownies. tiramisu. creme brulee. korean bbq.
Tell me something good that happened to you over the last week:
see above post
You're offered your dream job, along with an awesome salary. But taking it would mean you have to live all the way across the country from your family. Would you accept, or would you choose to stay closer to home?
I already live all the way across the country from my family, so yes.
Men with long hair (we'll define "long" as past chin length): yay or nay?YAY... high school crush, can't forget it.
What was your all time favorite childhood dessert?I think maybe rice krispie treats?
Let's go back in time to...wedding planning! Did you enjoy planning your wedding, or was it a stressful chore that you're glad is over? What was your favorite part? Least favorite part? enjoy, favorite was invite but was very stressful and labor intensive. least fave was invite list, I regret not inviting some people.

Gone with the Wind, Godfathers all, Rosemary's baby, Exorcist.

A lawyer! I would watch all these law tv shows with my mom and I was convinced I knew it all.

The grossest is the McLobster, God help me! Oh I would eat the buffet at Wendys, seeing as I did alot when I was a kid!
If you were on death row, what would your last meal be?
A little of all my favorites......a taco from Albertos, macaroni and cheese, Bronx pizza in San Diego, and a big 'ol yummy salad.

I made a difference in a kids life.

Well I kind of feel like that is our situation right now, but my husband got the job, not me. Even though we're 2 states away, we still feel like we're worlds apart.
Men with long hair (we'll define "long" as past chin length): yay or nay?
Nay, never been a fan
What was your all time favorite childhood dessert?
lemon meringue pie, I'm with Lisa on this one. Only pie I will eat.

Oh gosh, wedding planning......still haunts me to this day. Maybe 2 days out of the year, I will have this melancholy moment where I miss it. But other than that, it was positively some of the most stressful times. Our resort made my life hell for the year leading up. My favorite part was hearing how excited my guests were to be coming to our event. Least favorite part, other than the resort issues......losing my BFF in the midst of that year.

Don't judge me.......but i have never seen it either. I haven't seen Gone with the wind either. And everyone thinks I'm crazy that I haven't seen Boondock Saints.
One of my favorite movies ever. I never wanted it to end.
LOL I will have to do an occasional "Just for Jen" edition of these polls.
