Hi! I just saw your Q, so I wanted to make sure you saw my answer ;)

I started out with the Nikon D60. It came with an 18-55mm lens which is a pretty good portrait/travel lens.  If you have some money to work with, I'd opt for the D90 or if you have a little more, the D300/D300S.  I had the 300S before upgrading to what I have now. And you can't go wrong with a 50mm 1.8 lens (about $150).

  • I didnt see it but thank you. DH and I want to upgrade but it would just be for when we travel or go to airshows. Thanks againg for this info.

  • The D60 would be perfect!  I loved that camera.  And it's easy to learn/use too!
