Baby William Carl was born on 8/21 @ 4:21pm. He weighed 7lbs 13 oz and was only 20" at birth. So i guess my fear that he was going to be HUGE was totally silly, ha-ha! Here's the story....
We went into the hospital on wednesday (the 20th). They inserted the cervidel around 7 and monitered me for a few hours. My contractions were coming about 10 minutes apart, but I could not feel them much. So they sent me to my room for the night. Dr. Paolilli came in on Thursday morning and took it out and let me shower. After that I had to go down to the labor department to start Pitocin.
When they hooked me up to the moniters, I was 3cm dialated and my contractions were 2 minutes apart. Dr. Wasserman started Pitocin and left. 3 hours later, contractions were STILL 2 minutes apart, but no progress, so they broke my water around noon. Contractions came VERY fast and hard so i broke down and asked for meds. After talking about the options, i decided to go with an Epi so they could pump the pitocin even faster. OMG what a nightmare. The lady who did it was HORRIBLE. The first time she did it, it would not go in, so she tried AGAIN. The 2nd time she tried, she went to far, and so i had a wet tap. She got all nervous and got on the phone with the head of the department and said something about headaches and was asking me if i could feel my feet. I had no idea what was going on. Dr. Patel came up and tried for a THIRD time. He got it in so fast it was unbelievable. Ok, so i got to rest for a little while they upped the PIT.
I started feeling REALLY sick around 330. I ended up dry heaving and such and when that was all done, i looked at the moniter and the babies heartbeat was showing at about 80 BPM. I thought it was because i had been moving around and the moniter moved, but NOPE. They could not find it to go faster. They threw the oxygen on me and then inserted an internal moniter. I was really scared and wanted a C-section, haha. When he inserted the moniter, i was at 8cm. Then one contraction later, I was at 10. Dr. W had me practice push. I was told to push at 4:15. He was born at 4:21. Two contractions and maybe 5 pushes... YES!!! Here are a few pics...
Ok, so recovery was going OK. I was supposed to be discharged on Saturday morning, but about a half hour before Dr. F came in, i got a very sudden / severe headache. Dr. F came in and said he wanted me to stay a few more hours to moniter this. He said it was more then likely a spinal headache. To make a VERY long story short, the Anastesioligist explained a few options to me, one being a blood patch (inserting my blood into my spine) and the caffine drip. I was scared about someone going into my back again, so i ended up having a crazy amount of caffine dripped into an IV very quickly, and then a bag of saline. When that was done, my head was still pounding. The nurse i had (love her, she was very grandmother ish) talked to me about the blood patch again. I was scared, but i decided to go for it because i could nto go home and take care of my son with a headache that bad. As soon as I had that, my headache went away so fast. I wish i had done it earlier in the day. Oh well, you live you learn right? I was a human pin cushin, and have the bruises EVERYWHERE to prove it!
So we are home, have been for a few days. I'll update more later as this got rather long. I hope everyone is doing well!
Re: He's Here!!! (LONG)
My oldest son was at the hospital when he was born and the nurses let him ring the buzzer for the lullaby. He was SOOOO excited about doing that, ha-ha!
When I was in Labor, i had a younger Nancy and the nurse who i LOVED that i had after all was said and done was also a Nancy. She was an older women. I really really loved her, and i loved one of the nurses that was on at night (Tiffany). She was great too! There was a nurse that I had on Saturday during the day who i could not stand. I wont name names though, ha-ha!
Congratulations Jess and family! I had been wondering what ever happened with your labor, girl! Those are some great pictures of you and your new little man - he is SO CUTE! Nice one of Dr. W with him too (last time I saw him was when he put my mirena in, LOL!).
I'm glad that the problem you had didn't turn out to be too serious and yey for only five pushes - I am jealous of that!!!
Congratulations Jess, he is precious!
I had a lot of problems & attempts (7 I think) getting my epi too. No fun!
Thanks girls!!!
WOW!!!! & attempts... I wanted to shoot someone after the 1st one, LOL
Yayy congrats Jess! I am sorry you had to go thru all the mess with the epidural though! I do Xray and we give people epidurals under live xray and occassionaly we have to bring them back for blood patches, it's caused by spinal fluid leaking out the pinhole from the needle, it's nothing bad and usually the body can seal itself right up, but sometimes the angle isn't good...It amazes me that before we even sit patients up, the headache is gone...it's like a miracle(the blood patch)
William is absolutely adorable, can't wait to see more pics!
Congratulations, what a story!!
