I used to work at the Career Center at UGA and they have really good online resume/cover letter help. Go to www.career.uga.edu and click on "the job search". On that page you will see different options to look into; click on "cover letters" and it will give you a cover letter template and helpful tips.

Here's mine with personal info edited out.    Dear Sir or Madam: I am enclosing my resume to indicate my interest in employment with {company name}. I have over two years of progressively responsible human resource experience and would like to continue my growth with a company that will offer additional challenges and opportunities. I believe that my enclosed resume is evidence enough of my work ethic and drive to become an effective member of your District Human Resources team. If, after reviewing my qualifications and experience, you feel that my credentials meet your organization?s standards, please do not hesitate to contact me. I may be reached at {phone number} or via email at {my name}@gmail.com. I believe that my unique combination of solid and progressively responsible human resource experience, a diligent and determined work ethic, and an enthusiastic attitude, would be an asset to your organization. Thank you for your consideration. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

P.S. I look at these things every day at work.  Keep it short and sweet, introduce yourself and let your resume do the talking.  Don't make your cover letter a novel of the information contained in your resume.  I see that as wasting my time and those people go to the bottom of the pile

Thanks, mine was long so I swapped it for the short and simple.
