Girl's name -How to pronounce?

How would you pronounce - Njeri?

Might the N be silent?

Re: Girl's name -How to pronounce?

  • I'd pronounce the N.  I'd say "Nn- Jeer-ee"

Is the name African?  A lot of African names have an N and then a consanant, and the N is always pronounced. HTH!

  • I have no clue of the proper way to pronounce it... but if I were reading a book and saw that name, I'd pronounce it as "Nyeri"... like n-yeh-ree.

That's how I would pronounce it too.

  • I would either say Ny-eri, like VC said, or just Gerry.

You pronounce it two ways. The first (and proper) way is by pronouncing the letter N and roll the r so it sounds like a d. So it's pronounced N-Jed-ee.

My parents "Americanized" it so I don't roll the r but I still pronounce the letter N. So I pronounce my name as N-Jerry.

    Hope this helps!
