Natural sources of fiber? (maybe tmi)
What do you eat to boost your fiber intake?
I don't have, and never had, regular BMs. If I'm lucky I go twice a week...I've been reading that this isn't really healthy but I'm not sure what to do to make it more frequent. Besides fiber, are there other suggestions? I'd prefer not to take a supplement if I can avoid it -- something i can put in my food or whatever is more appealing to me.

Flax seed, ground and added to smoothies
Edamame -- great for snacking
Steel-cut oatmeal

Whole grain (whole wheat breads, etc.), friut/dried fruit, veggies...

Hmm maybe there is something bigger going on with me because I eat a lot of those things regularly. Steel-cut oatmeal is a regular in our house. I mix flax seed granola with my daily dose of yogurt, eat TONS of fruits and veggies...perhaps a discussion for the doc.
Thanks for the suggestions ladies.
I was never regular either. So, my first pregnancy destroyed me... made a bad situation far, far worse. No OTC powder or pill helped me, but they hurt me with the amount of gas they produced. Google soluble vs. insoluble fiber. I used Rx Miralax to control an acute problem, then found food sources to replace the Miralax. I am proud to say that I made it through my second pregancy with regular BMs and am regular to this day : ) lol
It's been said that high fiber breakfast cereal is the best way to start your day, the most fiber you can pack into a meal. That with 8 ounces of prune juice will move you. Read your labels and get to know your fiber contents in fruits and veggies and make a goal to meet and exceed the RDA for fiber every day. I ate prunes like crazy, drank the juice, ate my high fiber fruits and veggies, like raspberries and peas, and ate whole grain breads, while reducing my meat and dairy consumption. If I ever have a problem, I go back to this routine (that I sometimes don't adhere to) and it works. Good luck : )
Thanks ksdk.
I'm never uncomfortable from it...just don't go much. But that sounds like a good plan and I am going to start being more conscious of it. I think one of the contributors to the problem is that I do consume a TON of dairy. I drink water at work, but outside of work all I drink is milk. I LOVE it -- and it's something I could never cut out so if I have to eat/drink prunes to balance it out I will! Thanks for the suggestions.
You may need to see a gastroenterologist to check out if you might have IBS or something similar. I have tons of fiber, but it doesn't always help. My GI doc always repeats: "peaches & pears, peaches & pears!" and she also told me to steer clear of 'binding' foods like white rice.
Another source of the problem could be dehydration (often an issue for me), so try keeping an eye on your water intake. Fiber can't "do it's thing" without plenty of water.
