research on homemade cleaning agents for bathroom

Hi ladies - I've never posted on this board but have a question I'm hoping someone can help me out with.

We've slowly been switching over to homemade cleaning agents as we run out of our store-bought stuff.  MH is nervous about switching over to homemade cleaners for the bathroom because he's worried they won't be as effective in killing germs.  Has anyone seen research on the topic?  I have a feeling if I can find some solid research on the issue that could be all I need to change his mind.  TIA!

Re: research on homemade cleaning agents for bathroom

  • Organic Housekeeping outlines very clearly how a vinegar cleaning spray followed with hydrogen peroxide is a very effective disinfectant.

Personally, I don't lick my toilet, so I don't need it to be that clean.

  • Ditto above....I use vinegar (50/50 dilution with water) followed by peroxide (non diluted). This works great.

That is the best book for people who want to understand the science behind green cleaning. It is great!

Like Uncanny, I do not need to lick my toilet (hee hee), so normal cleaning levels suffice for me. The recipe I use is from Green Clean. You can see it here (under the pics of the spray bottles).
