Leep procedure

Hi ladies, has anyone had a leep done? I just found out today that Im going to need one. I had an abnormal pap and had a colposcopy done to see if I needed a leep. It has I have dysplasia.

I was on the pill for 8 years and got a pap every 6 months. Then I got off the pill 14 cycles ago and have had a pap once a year. This is the first time I had an abnormal pap.

DH and I decided to TTC last month and then I got this news, so Im very sad. The doctor said after I have the Leep we have to wait a month to TTC, so I guess it could be worse.

The doctor said that this is very common and he sees this everyday. After talking to many of girlfriends, many of them have dysplasia and HPV and have also had some of these procedures done. But it still makes me nervous. Of corse it had to happen just when DH and I decided to start trying for a baby.

After everything with my DH's kidney problems, now this with me. I tell ya it never ends.

Re: Leep procedure

  • I always get confused with the terms- I know a LEEP is one way to remove the bad cells. I had a conization a few years ago- I'm not sure if it's the same thing or another method entirely? It was an outpatient procedure, and I was under general. My girlfriend had something similar done, but was in the doctor's office and was only given a local- both of us turned out fine! Minimal discomfort. Actually the colposcopy bothered me more. I went for Paps every 6 months for a while, then back to annual.

And you're right- until I started asking about it I wasn't aware how common it is.  Good luck with everything!
