need your help ladies

I'm getting ready to apply & wanna hear what you ladies have to say about any of these hospitals.  Why should I apply or stay away from these places?  I'd like to hear anything you have to say about a place, good or bad.  This is the most nerve-racking part about this whole situation...going blind into a place I don't know anything about really.  Thanks so much for your help.

  • I've only had one bad experience with Banner Thunderbird. My friend had a baby there and loved the experience she had. I've never really been to the other hospitals and is it bad that I've never heard of some of them? My SIL works at St Joe's but that's not on the list.

  • Thanks Jenn, good to hear.  I'm really open to wherever, but I saw that a few of those are in the more western part/north-western part.  I'm really excited too, but nervous!  Can't believe it's getting so close now.  Can't wait to hang out either.  Smile

Alright, was it an outpatient experience or were you a pt. there?  Haha, I don't think it's bad that you've never heard of some of the other ones.  They're in a wide range of areas in/around Phoenix & a few of them are satellite campuses off a bigger one, or just fairly small by the looks of things.  St. Joe's really doesn't have many open positions right now & not any that will work for me unfort.  We walked into & checked out that hosp. a lil bit when we were there & it looked very nice.

It was my boyfriend at the time, he was a checked in patient there. He had his lungs collapsed. After he had surgery he got an Ivy for paid meds, the drip kind I guess. Well it wasn't working and he kept saying that he isn't getting anything. We called the nurse and she checked it and said its fine and it's working. Well like about one hour and a half later he was still in pain and the we called the nurse again and she said it was still fine. Then about a half hour later we called another nurse to come in and look at it and she said it wasn't working properly and he hasn't been getting the meds like he should have. So she finally fixed it and he finally got the pain to go away. I hated that nurse so bad and I complained about her. The other nurse yelled at her too and the Doctor. But I haven't been back since, well since it's so far from me but that is the only thing that we had.

And sorry two of my friends at their babies there and Loved it. I guess we just got the bad nurse for the day.

  • FWIW, as a nurse, I would NOT want to work at these hospitals:

    -Phoenix Baptist Hospital

    -Maryvale Hospital

    -Tempe St. Luke's Hospital

They are not in good areas of town.  I would be scared to be by myself in those areas.  Also, the care at those hospitals is known to be less than stellar.

  • I'm a nurse and I agree with pp about some of the places being in not so safe areas with shadier care.  (Baptist/ Maryvale) On your list I've only worked at JCL-Deer valley and enjoyed it for the short time I was there, but it was too far for me to commute so didn't stay.  Most of my training/clinicals were done with several of the Banner hospitals (but not the ones listed) and I liked there pt and staff philosophies.  I've been with St. Joes since I got out of school, but you're right, they don't usually advertise a lot of their spots.  Happy job hunting!

  • I LOVE Arrowhead Hospital.  My old PCP is their chief of staff- he's FABULOUS and a wonderful person to work with.

  • Thanks ladies, esp. dmw531 & timark.  That's what I need to hear.  I wanna know the ones to stay away from & it's nice to hear it from someone who knows pretty much first-hand.  The ones on my list are just the ones who have open positions right now that would be a fit for me.  Please let me know if either of you hear anything at Mayo or St. Joe's.  I'd really appreciate it, cuz they don't have much on the website right now.  Should I just call into human resources??

Good!  Thanks.  Do you know anything about their special surgical unit?  That's a position they have open.  Did you have your surgery at this hosp.?

nesjas- sorry about the bad experience...sounds like you just got a crappy nurse that day.  :(

  • I live near John C Lincoln Deer Valley and have always heard good things about it, I also have a friend who's mom is one of the top ER doctors there. It is in a nice part of town and very easy to get to because it is right where the 2 main freeways intersect.
