Argh! Moving. . .

We are officially moving from our awesome pad in the Hollywood Hills.  We're going to start trying soon and decided living on a cliff is not the best place to be.

Do you like where you live?  Where is it?  I've only lived in BH and HH and we're looking for more of a community with still staying close to the city.

Please help!

xoxo

Re: Argh! Moving. . .

  • Are you going to be renting or buying?  Are you looking for a house in a really residential area or still things to do?  I think there are so many different options.  I'm assuming based on where you live you want to stay on the Westside?

Higher end areas of course have great residential/family areas and have a lot going on as well - Santa Monica, Pacific Palisades, Beverly Hills among the obvious.

Hancock Park - has Larchmont Village which is a great cute walkable area

Westwood & Brentwood - near UCLA

    More affordable options:

Mar Vista (up and coming area directly west of Palms and Culver City)

There's an area right around the corner from the Grove which is great - once you turn a corner there are trees and beautiful houses and family friendly and you would never guess that so much was going on right around the corner

We live right near Downtown Culver City which we LOVE - the Downtown is so cute and still has plenty going on but it's not overwhelming.  When we run right behind Downtown Culver City there are always people with baby carriages and families walking around outside.  Most of the houses though I feel like are bungalows and 2br/1ba but I think there are some 3br/2ba in there.

For areas not on the Westside:

La Canada Flitridge, Altadena, Pasadena, South Pasadena

Most of my recommendations are just based off of real estate and exploring - I've only lived in Culver City - but hopefully it helps!  There are just so many options - it really just depends on your personality and budget.

  • Will you or DH be commuting?  If so, where?  Is it important to not spend 1 hr in the car commuting?

  • Sorry, I guess I should have stated that we will be buying and we both work out of the house so yay no commuting!  Right now we are looking at Cheviot Hills, BHPO, toluca lake, etc.
  • Studio City- I love it here! It is centrally located with cute shops, restaurants and easy access to Hollywood/BH through the canyons. Good luck with your search- you must be so excited!
  •  If you are looking at Cheviot Hills/BHPO I would look at Beverly Center/Miracle Mile area just a hop skip and a jump away from the Grove there are some really cute streets with lots of trees and beautiful houses.  DH's PI bought a house there in October 2008 and it was beautiful with a pool, firepit, etc. and they just had a baby - and it's in the same price range.  Hancock Park is right in that area as well and another great option.  Westwood might be worth looking into as well.

If we didn't have to commute (which I actually do work from home a lot) I would definitely head out to Pacific Palisades and Malibu - Point Dume would be my dream location.

Happy house hunting!  I can't wait to house hunt - so unbelievably envious!
