New and got a question

Hey hey, I just came over here from the knot.  I got married on August 9th.  I'm beginning the task of changing my name.  Do I have to apply separately to get a certified copy of the marriage certificate or do I get one in the mail?

Re: New and got a question

  • once you get your license in the mail, take it to the DMV/Social Securitry office and ask for a certified copy. They'll copy, stamp, and sign it.
  • oh! And congrats!
  • You can also get a certified copy from probate court where you got your marriage license. I found I only needed one copy because Social Security, DMV, etc. took mine and made a copy. The only person i sent it to and they kept it was for my new passport. Congrats and Good luck with the name change (it took me about a month to get all the bills and stuff changed over)
