The church I work at is really trying to recognize Earth day with a different goal or thing to think about each day of next week.
I need simple, yet effective things that aren't too preachy that I can put on a calendar type thing. Ideas?
For Thursday, actual Earth Day, we are challenging all the parishioners to NOT use Plastic, and also to notice how hard it is. So I need 6 more!!!
Thanks!
Re: Need your Nestie HELP!
- carpool, walk, bike, take public transit - anything but drive in a car by yourself
- make a meal with a local ingredients
- plant a tree
-Meat-free day
-Encourage the use of reusable cups/h20 bottles for a day instead of disposables.
To not use plastic seems mighty limiting, especially for something that is supposed to be "simple." My glasses are made of plastic, as is my contact case. Shall I not see that day? I also wouldn't be washing (shampoo bottle) or brushing my hair that day, or applying my lip gloss, which would make for a miserable day all around. If the idea is to make people aware of how many things use plastic, that's one thing, but I don't think it will be as successful as, say, "Use a reusable coffee cup this week" or "Plant a tree."

I totally agree. That is the one that I can't change... it was put in my hands by the head of the creation care committee. I can alter it. Which I have been working on, is to limit the amount of plastic you use/buy and think about how much in our day to day life is made of plastic.
Take the stairs instead of the elevator.
Take a 5 minute or less shower.
Wash clothes on cold.
Unplug unused electronics - cell phone chargers, coffee pot, microwave
Limiting is good.
Making a list of everything you use that contains plastic would also be eye-opening. I love lists.
