How much to get for picnic

We are doing a small potluck picnic (about 15 people)  We said we would be doing hamburgers and hot dogs  I was thinking I would do deviled eggs also.  Not knowing what everyone is brining should I have the things on hand for a last min. dessert and baked beans in case no one brings them (I feel these are staples for a picnic jmo though :)  Also, how many hot dogs and how many h-burgers should I make?  TIA

Re: How much to get for picnic

  • I always estimate 2 hamburgers per person. Hotdogs is one per person since not as many people will eat hot dogs (that I know).

I always have things on stand by in case something is not brought to the party.  Beans are simple to keep on hand,  so is chips and salsa. I try to have some basic ice cream flavors and a couple toppings in case no one brings dessert. I have been known to make some brownies just in case too.

  • I would do about 18-20 burgers and 24 hot dogs.
I think Hot dogs are inexpensive enough that if you have left overs its not a big loss and if they guys are really hungry they will polish them off.

I think bringing a pack of cookies like oreo's is a easy just in case dessert.
Baked beans are a good idea, but I would stick to a finger food like a veggie tray or even just baby carrots and a dip like hummus. But that's just me.

    have fun!

  • 1 hamburger per woman and 2 per man.  Then 20-24 hot dogs depending on package size.  I'd probably just go with the deviled eggs then do either a cake or batch of cookies.  Those are easy and can be made the day before.
