Anyone here eating a raw or vegan (or both) diet?

Can you share some resources about why it's a good idea to go raw and/or vegan? I'm interested in learning more about this after a friend made the switch recently. I'm already vegetarian but think I'd have a hard time without eggs and dairy, and without hot cooking. I suppose I said the same thing about meat a few years ago, but am doing ok - though this would be taking it to another level and adding more restrictions. Thoughts?

  • I am vegan but I do not eat a raw diet. For information about benefits of eliminating animal foods from your diet, I recommend reading The China Study. Good luck and have fun as you explore these options!

  • I eat mostly (95% ?) vegan.  DH is an omnivore, and not all family/friends are considerate of my diet, so on rare occasion I have eggs or fish.  Never dairy, because I can't digest milk at all anyway.

For me, I feel like I have much more energy when eating strict vegan foods - plus, I don't need to worry about them containing milk.  Losing the dairy wasn't that hard, it can just sometimes be a pain avoiding it when eating out.  (I only found out a few years ago that it was what was making me sick.)  Opting out of milk and eggs also avoids any of the antibiotics and hormones that the animals may have been given.

I love raw foods.  Again, its another step that seems to increase my energy level.  However, I probably won't ever go strict raw foods b/c it would be too hard for DH.  We've been to a few raw foods restaurants, which I loved, but he hated.  Also, there are some foods (like tomatoes) that actually have more nutritional value when cooked.
