Mac OSX

What is the best way, besides buying a Mac, to learn about Mac operating systems?

I had a job interview today with a magazine publisher for a layout/production artist position, and it went really well. The interviewer said his only concern was that his company is Mac-based, and my professional work has been primarily PC-based.

IF I make it to a second interview, he said that one of the questions will be, what is my plan to get up to speed on Macs before I start with the company.

Is there a book you would recommend? Online tutorials?

Re: Mac OSX

  • One good book that I know of is by David Pogue, it's called Mac OS X: The missing manual. But really it's not that hard to learn all about Macs. Once you get started you will pick it up pretty fast. Apple also has lots of tutorials online. Just search for Snow Leopard which is the latest operating system version.
  • Ditto the David Pogue book. It's a good one.

Mac OS is really quite easy to learn, so you shouldn't have any issues. When I made the switch over back in college, the only thing that threw me off for a little while was the different ''short-cut" keys. But I adapted fairly fast to that.
