change of name

I am in the process of changing my name.  I have my SS, license, and bank account.  Is there an easy way to change all the bills?

How do I go about changing my passport?

Any suggestions would be great!

Re: change of name

  •  I went through the same process when I got married, only in a new state (I had just moved to TX with DH-we're back to Columbus now). What I did was just sit down with statements from every card (I only have 2) and utility bill and just call them. Most of the time, changing a name is as simple as giving your SSN and its done.

If you have things like ROTH IRAs or 401Ks, these might take some forms that you need to mail in. You're smart to get your SS and license taken care of first, as at times they as for a xerox copy of these with the form.

     HTH and congratulations!

  • Oh-and I forgot about the passport. I haven't changed this yet, but I'd imagine you'd need to go to the post office to change this. You can also do a US Government website search. They should have the process all listed out for you there.
  • I used MissNowMrs.com you can fill out all the forms and then print them out and mail them off to the different places they need to go. It was like $30 but DEFINATELY worth it for me. I even had all the paperwork ready when I got to the SS office and it made that so much easier and faster.

I filled out everything printed them out, mailed them to the banks and credit card companies. I think there is a form available to change your passport as well, but I don't remember.

     Hope that helps!
