The iPad was so popular in Norway that they had to cut-off pre-orders months ago to even have a hope of filling the demand. So I ended up pre-ordering one in the US and am planning to pick it up on a work trip next week. (My colleague is allegedly having a good time baby-sitting it until I get there!)
However, since the fuss about them being confiscated by customs in Israel because of the differing WiFi standards, someone has pointed out that Norway (and the rest of Europe) have the same standards as Israel, so it's technically illegal to bring it here.
But at least I'm in good company as I consider breaking the law, as the Norwegian prime minister bought one to play with while he waits through the flight delays from the Icelandic volcano. Since the photo has been circulating the internet, I wonder if he'll actually be pressured into handing it over when he finally gets home!
Re: XP: My iPad is illegal! :-(
:-O
Don't worry- I'll help organize some fans to bail you out. That's crazy!
And now it's stuck on the wrong side of the volcano. The prime minister was able to import his, but he had to fly to Spain and then drive all the way back to Norway.
My trip to Houston was canceled, so now I don't know when I'll be able to fly over and pick up my new toy.
I'm bummed.
Hopefully (fingers crossed) I'll be flying over this week to pick it up.
FYI - Israel has since lifted its ban on the iPad, and the Norwegian prime minister was allowed to bring his into the country (after paying the appropriate import taxes, of course)!
