Losing...

...weight! I know that I was in workout mode before the wedding. And now that I've been married for a couple months, I have noticed I have lost most/all that I achieved before the wedding. Sooo, who is trying to lose weight and/or become healthier?

What are you doing to get there?

Re: Losing...

  • I would like to lose 20-30 lbs. I'm trying to eat waaay more veggies and some more fruit. I tried P90X and failed miserably so now I am going to try the 30 Day Shred and Insanity. I hate the gym, so home DVD's are the way to go. With a H who works out 7x a week (thanks Army) and has no problem maintaining, I think he will be my biggest challenge.

  • I need to, I really do.  I did the Daily Plate for two weeks and did mediocre at that, but I wasn't seeing results (I'm far too impatient) so I gave up.  Plus that program is a PITA.

DH has tried P90X and last night he forbade me to even try it.  He said I would die.  So naturally I need to try it now, but I need to find it in YouTube or something because I don't want to spend the money.

And on that note, I'm going to go eat an unhealthy dinner... lol.  DH is out of town, is it weird that I still eat Kid Cuisine?

  • I am trying to lose a few pounds/maintain the weight that I am currently at (just get more toned). I currently go to the gym 4-5x a week for about an hour each time. I alternate between the treadmill and the weight room. I also am trying to eat healthier, which is  not much an issue during the week. The weekend is the problem b/c MH and I both indulge in most of the things that we don't let ourselves have during the week. So I am trying to eat more in moderation over the weekend as well and it doesn't help that alcohol is generally involved during the weekend. Well I just finished eating the remainder of the jelly beans, so that won't be a problem anymore.Lol

I've been adding walking to my commute (a mile to the train both ways) and generally trying to be more active.  H and I are doing a 5k on May 2nd!

I'm a pretty healthy eater, but I actually recently joined Weight Watchers as support for my SIL.  I've done it several times before, and it really works!  I'm only trying to lose 10 or *maybe* 15 lbs, though.

In health-related news - I got the results back from my cholesterol test.  It was 208 a little over a year ago...and it's 189 now!  I'm pretty excited about that.  H, on the other hand, claims he's gained 20 lbs since the wedding.  I say it's because I'm an amazing chef! ;)

  • Congrats on the cholesterol Noron!

Last time I went to the Dr. they said my cholesterol was "slightly elevated" but didn't indicated I had to do anything about that.  I'm sure it's worse by now.  DH has been practicing his physicals on me and swears I have HBP but every time I go to the Dr. they say it's normal, so IDK about that.

  • I need to get back on the healthy train but school has sucked every last minute of time that I have. DH and I were doing P90X and did it for 35 days and then I hit a week of insane work where I was getting up at 7 and going to bed at 4 so there was no time for working out.

On that note though, I LOVE LOVE LOVE P90X. I love that it's crazy intense, I love that I can feel it after every single day, and I love that after like 15 days I had killer abs already. We have vowed that as soon as my semester is over we are starting it again, and I can't wait!

Panda - if you are not used to working out hard core, I'd work up to P90X by doing something a little easier first or you're going to pull a muscle or hurt yourself. If you are used to working out hard, don't let your H tell you not to! I love that I can do more pushups than my H can, it's so empowering!

Thanks!  I was psyched.  I actually did a lot of research on cholesterol since I am (and have been) a healthy eater, so I was really confused when I got the high result.  Turns out the pill can elevate your good cholesterol number, which increases the overall number.  I'm not sure if you use the bcp, but just a random thought as to why yours might have been slightly elevated!  I ended up switching to a lower hormone one, which I think lead to some of my success.

Musgral and eskamo, P90X sounds awesome but I have such a hard time doing forced workout routines, kwim?  I prefer walks outside, non-competitive sports, etc.  I really want to do DVDs (so convenient!) but I can never seem to stick to them. :(

  • Don't get me wrong, I love P90X but I'm just really not strong enough for it yet. Plus Tony is a little annoying lol. Musgral's right though, it's an intense amazing workout.

I do DVD's cause I'm too lazy to drive to the gym plus I always feel inadequate Embarrassed. Really though, DVDs help me keep to a program. If I'm sitting on the couch I'm like "hmm, maybe I should pop Jillian in..."

I'm not used to working out hard.  My idea of good cardio is 1.5 miles on the treadmill (it gets my heart rate going at least, which I think is a good thing?).  I guess I will have to build up to it.

  • Since the wedding and quitting smoking I have gained 10-15 pounds. I am miserable- none of my clothes fit anymore (I have 2 maybe 3 pairs of pants that I can button). DH and I are joining the Y on monday and I have some co-workers that are joinging also so we will all motivate eachother to eat bettter and exercise.

  • *chiming in*

i was gaining weight before the wedding, it only went downhill after the wedding! add some extra weight from the now gone baby, and i literally have one pair of work pants that fit and one pair of jeans. and i had to go buy the new work pants 2 wks ago! i'm a mess. DH cancelled his gym membership, so i lost my partner (he would rather run, and i hatehatehatehatehate running outside) and the novelty of belonging to a gym in the city has worn off (they changed the parking rules and now i'm confused and pissed off).

i tried 30 day shred before the wedding, but couldn't make it a routine. i'm hoping to convince myself to return to my routine of leaving work, walking a few blocks to the gym and then walking the 2 miles home...since it is summer, the days are longer, and the weather is not as unbearable to walk in.

  • I'm so beyond frustrated with weight and weight loss that i dont even have the strength to write about it! haha...I do try to update my weight as a check in on my blog every monday
