My mother-in law purchased a used car seat from a co-worker. She said it is a Britax...not sure which type or how old it is. Would you feel comfortable putting your baby in a used seat? I keep going back and forth with this. I haven't seen it yet, but she did say it was nice.
Re: Used carseats
You *need* to know how old it is. After a certain length of time (IIRC, 5 years, but i'm not sure), they no longer certify them.
It's a lovely thought and a kind gesture, but I would personally NOT use it and buy a cheaper seat in lieu of using a more expensive model that I had no history on.
HTH!
ITA with the PP's . . . unless *I* knew and trusted the person it came from, I wouldn't take it. A car seat can look perfect, but if it was in any accident beyond a little "bumper thumper," it's safety value may be compromised.
That said, I believe that Britax has an accident replacement policy. I'm not sure what you'd need (a recepit, accident report, etc...), but maybe you can look into it to see if you can "claim" an accident with this seat and get a new one. Theft be deception, perhaps, but for what they cost, it's worth a look.
make sure it was never in an accident and then check the back for the expiration date on it. all car seats have expiration dates on them, just like food. lol
i had one given to us and i use it every single day that i go out. i know the people it was from and i know it was never in an accident and the expiration date is still good.
