I have no idea wear to start where to go to selelct an Ergo baby carrier. Is there just one style of several to choose from and which one should I get?? Help.

Re: BR - Which ergo should I get?
From what I could gather they are all the same -concept wise baby "sits" and good support for mom/dad/carrier. But there are 2 different types.
There is the traditional one - made from canvas and you can get the fabric in organic. Then there is also a "sport" one and I don't know a whole lot about it other than it has some special wicking fabric (so it's good for those in warmer climates) and some say it works better for moms and dads with larger frames. I don't really know if that's true I have the regular and have never seen the Sport IRL
HTH!!
The Ergo website has some great videos and they model both the traditional canvas one and the sport so maybe check those out.
Renee has a good point.
Also I would totally recommend something different for the newborn/small infant stage. I don't have the infant insert so I couldn't use it when Jack was a newborn but I wouldn't have wanted to because you can't really comfortably sit with it on and often I would "wear him to sleep" in the Moby or ring sling around the house and then just sit down on the couch with him still on me and catch on e-mails and stuff like that. Those were my preferred carriers while we were out shopping too.
I wouldn't be able to do that with the Ergo on because it sits lower on your hips. Now that he's getting older I have put him in the Ergo for a walk around the lake (with his legs frogged) and it was really comfy so he fell right asleep so I think we are really going to like it for "out and about" wearing. Plus when he is older I could easily unbuckle or shift it somehow without worrying about waking him or something.
i agree with pp - i would wait. first, it's nice to try things on w/your baby to see what you like. i tried on an ergo, pikkolo, beco, maya ring sling, and moby before A was born and did not really love any of the soft structured carriers (SSCs). the lady in the shop told me that moby's are great for newborns but if i wanted something that would work from birth to toddler-hood that i should get a maya. so i did. and then i find out that i am so petite that it hurts my shoulders to use a ring sling. so now i have to sell it.....and i've found that i actually prefer SSCs
if you can find a babywearing group around you that's the best way to try them all on...or a local shop that sells them of course. that's how i figured out what i liked, b/c there is a DFW babywearing group where i was able to see a bunch of different carriers and try them on. you can go to babywearer.com and read the forums and search for a group near you... i am sure if there isn't one in CT that if you made a trip to manhattan you could find one. of course traveling that far w/a newborn might not be ideal....but maybe if you found a group someone would let you try them on with one of their babies if you want to go while you are still PG?? (also depends on how much you are showing now b/c that can affect the fit/feel. ETA- LOL i didn't realize you are already 36 wks along! wow time flies...in that case i would just wait until after baby is born) i just know it's totally different once you try it on w/a baby. that, and your baby may not even like being carried - some don't. but i think if you start early they are more likely to enjoy it.
if you want to have at least something before baby is born i'd make a DIY moby type wrap that is cheap and then wait to figure it out.
there are also reviews for lots of different carriers on thebabywearer.com too
FWIW i like the ergo but don't love it b/c i find it bulky on my small frame. i really liked the pikkolo and angelpack. you'll find that every mama has her own preference based on her own body shape and the size of the baby i think. i have a friend who says that "every mama should have some type of woven wrap" but they can be costly.
the ergos are pretty much all the same just different prints...although there is the sport version mentioned above. if you're willing to buy one gently used, there are some good prices you can get...plus if you are ok w/the style that was recently offered on babysteals (black with embroidery) then i think there are plenty of people who bought one and are selling them back now so you can at least save some $$ that way. there is a "discussions" tab on the babysteals FB page where people re-sell their "steals" if they don't want them anymore.

Thanks for your suggestions.....guess I'll get a moby and wait until our LO gets here. There's really no place that sells Ergos around hear.
I just realized I used the 'wear' instead of 'where' in my post....please excuse my bad english
