can someone help with with a bacherlorette party?

I am trying to plan a bacherlorette party in austin tx for 10-12 girls. I have only been to one B party in my life and it was my own and was only 5 girls out to a club for drinks and low key evening.

here is what I need-

hotel- Does anyone know the best way to get 12 girls into a hotel? Should we get 3 rooms.4 a room? Or try to cram everyone into 2 rooms? Or do big hotel suites to fit everyone exist anywhere?

cost- for friday night we will go to 6th street, out to dinner (any recommendations from locals?) and then crash at the hotel. Saturday we are staying at a lakehouse, will have a lingerie shower and then go out on a rented boat on the lake. The lakehouse is free, but we'd have to split the boat cost.

Can anyone please tell me since I have no experience, how does the costs of the party usually get divied up? Do you collect from everyone using something like paypal? I really don't want to charge up a bunch on my credit card and have to deal with trying to collect from everyone.

What would you considered a decent rate from everyone for the hotel? $50 a person?  I want it to be nice, but don't want anyone to be finaicial strapped because of it, and the bride wouldn't want that either. But I also need to get some party supplies (silly bacherlorette stuff) but because I'm the MOH, does that cost fall on me?

Obviously I have no clue what I'm doing!

Re: can someone help with with a bacherlorette party?

  • Wow!  Those are ambitous plans.  I don't have experience with Bachelorette parties... however before we were married I helped DH with his cousin's Bachelor Party.

This is what we did:  Room in an Irish pub in NYC with Buffet Dinner & Drinks, Hired a Professional Dealer to do "Texas Hold-Um"  and I did the invites myself on MS Word  - charged each guest 60.00 - which we stated on the invite.  His friends had a great time and they appreciated us keeping the costs down - my DH did have to "front" all of the cash for the evening - but everyone paid him back with no issues  (about 20-30 guys).  He covered some other small costs.

I hope that helps - if you want to work with a hotel - I'm sure that can be arranged as well - whatever you do I would consider your total costs for the evening and what everyone is really up to spending - especially now.  Be up-front about the cost per person with no surprises.  And I think you do have to pay for the Brides meal/room etc.

Good Luck and PLEASE follow-up and let us know what you did.

    Cheers!

  • Hotel--look into both a suite and rooms. I would do 4 ppl. to a room as long as everyone is cool with that! If you can get a suite that comfortably sleeps your girls, then get a suite. Just call around and ask the hotels.

Costs--Once you figure out the cost of the hotel and the cost of the boat, add them together and divide by how many girls are attending. The proper etiquette the bride never pays. You can pay her cost yourself, or, have the others throw in a few extra bucks for her.

Communicate to these girls what the cost is going towards as well. If the cost doesn't include food or drinks, then clarify that to them. I assume you guys will be doing dinner at a restaurant. I recommend you either give them a website of the restaurant or a range of how much plates cost. That way they have an idea of how much to bring in addition to paying you. If you are grilling out at the lakehouse and need money for food, include that in the cost as well.

I have paid anywhere for $40 for a hotel to $100. Perhaps looking at a few hotels with a few price ranges and asking the opinions of your bride or a couple others who might be going.

As for supplies--it's up to you if you want to buy them. Once again, I think it's proper etiquette that the MOH pays for it if she wants that kind of stuff. BUT I also had a group of friends that were willing to pitch in for that as well. If you're friends with some of the bride's friends and they would be cool with helping you pay for that, then ask!

As for paying, just give the girls a deadline to pay you by. That's what I did and it seemed to work out just fine.

Good Luck! If you have any other questions, feel free to send me an email!

Couldn't have said it better myself.

  • Hotels like Staybridge Suites or Hilton Suites have 2 bedroom rooms ... Now it might be a tight fit squeezing 12 people, since they usually hold only 8 (2 on the couch) but you could get two next to each other.  Anyway they have kitchens and living rooms, it would be nice for getting ready, having a few drinks, etc.

  • You should post this on the Austin board.  They are really helpful and can probably give you some ideas for Austin.

My input: My b-party was in Austin on 6th street.  We met at a friend's house (where we stayed) and did some gifts and had a few drinks.  Then, we headed downtown.  There, I had a silly scavenger hunt to complete and we just did the 6 street thing.  (I wore a tiara and we got TONS of free drinks - just FYI).  I'm not sure how they split everything up but I think they would just take turns getting the tab.

As for the hotel, I would suggest that you ask everyone that you're inviting what they are comfortable paying.  Go from there to choose your hotel.  For the other costs, I would probably just divide up the responsibilities. (For example: Sarah - in charge of decorations, Jill - in charge of hotel drinks.)  HTH!

  • In my opinion you should not expect people to pay a whole bunch for a bachelorette party. Not everyone has a lot of money. If I was invited to this and told I needed to pay a ton of money I'd probably say sorry but I can't go. I think people would have more fun doing something more low key and cheap than going into debt for one weekend of partying. Just my opinion.
