I'm planning a baby shower for the beginning of June for about 15-20
people. The shower will start around 12 so I was thinking of doing a
brunch rather than the typical sandwich and salads. This is what I have
for the menu so far, any advice is more than welcome. Thanks in
advance!
Main....
Homemade cinnamon buns
pigs in a blanket
mini quiches
muffins 2-3 kinds
scones of croissants
cheese platter
cold cuts
veggie tray
buns or french bread to go with cheese and cold cuts
dessert....
lemon bars
watermelon baby carriage
mini tarts/ apple and pecan
Re: baby shower menu....
Noon is lunch time not brunch time in my world. Is there any way to move it back to 11?
As for the actual menu it seems a little bread heavy- cinnamon buns, blankets, buns, muffins, scones. Even the lemon bars and tarts have a crust and most likely the quiche too. I'd get rid of the muffins or the scones. I'd also have either the lemon bars (which I adore) OR the mini tarts and add some chocolatey dessert.
I'd also consider moving the fruit to a main dish and also throwing in a pasta salad/broccoli slaw of some sort. It may just be me, but I don't really think of fruit as dessert.
I love breakfat foods, so while noon is a little late for brunch, I think it is a great idea.
I agree with pp about something chocolate for dessert - brownie bites would be great or double chocolate cookies, though I also love the desserts you have planned. I think fruit does count as a dessert (a healthy, yet still sweet alternative) and the carved melon will be a fun centerpiece.
Thanks for the suggestions, it is a little bread heavy so I'll eliminated a few things for sure.
I don't think it's too late for brunch. I just wanted to do something different, every shower is the same I find, sandwiches and salads...it's ok but it gets old.
I think I will add at least one salad incase people were expecting more lunch than brunch.
I'll serve the watermelon basket with the main meal instead of saving it for after (plus I'll get to show it off more!).
I never thought about the sandwich meats before so I might have to rethink that.
Thanks again for all the input, I can't wait for the party!

Yum, cinnamon rolls sound so good!
I did a brunch shower recently. This is what we had:
to nibble on: shrimp cocktail, crackers and cheese
meal: crustless quiche, potato bake, raspberry/feta cheese with mixed green, chicken salad w/mini croissants, mini blueberry muffins
dessert: cheesecake (crustless) with fresh raspberries and blueberries and a raspberry sauce, homemade chocolates
drinks: hot cocoa bar (winter shower), pomegranate 7-up, champagne and oj
the mom to be is gluten free so she could eat everything with the exception of the croissants. She loved it! It wasn't too hard to put together either! enjoy
Thanks for the ideas, to be honest I'm just doing the brunch theme for the cinnamon buns! LOL! What is a potato bake? It sounds interesting. I think you did a great job with your menu especially since it had to be gluten free!
