I planted a couple strawberry plants (in a container) and a couple blueberry bushes (in ground) last spring. I got 2 strawberries and no blueberries, which I expected. Now my strawberry plants have flowers on them, am I supposed to pinch those off or leave them? I am taking an organic approach to gardening and an organic gardening book I have says not to use tap water but collected rainwater to water the blueberry bushes............anyone heard that before? I live outside of Atlanta and we had a fairly rainy fall/winter/spring but summers are always dry......not sure how I would accomplish this as I don't have a rain barrel.
Any other tips on caring for my plants is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Heather
Re: Strawberry and Blueberry question
don't pinch off the flowers on your strawberries.
I just water my pants with a hose.
The strawberries come from the center of the flowers, so don't pinch them off. The onoly reason to do so is to pinch some off so you maximize the size of the ones you leave alone.
I have never heard of not using tap water to water. I use the hose and my blueberry bush does just fine.
Our little Irish rose came to us on March 5, 2010
Don't drink the water.
