Hi everybody! My name is Alyssa - DH and I just got back from our HM and I thought I should introduce myself over here. We're in downtown Orlando and have a six year old daughter (she's mine, technically, but now she's ours) who's in kindergarten this year and reading like a rockstar. I teach Biology online, he works for the Mouse.
We're hoping to buy a house in the next year or two, we're fans of grilling out, I'm a gardener and birdwatcher, DD and I are both dancers... probably enough about us.
I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone on here!
Re: New to the Nest
Welcome! This board can be a little slow at times, but it is a very friendly bunch of ladies.
That's cool that you live downtown. I think we have a few ladies who live downtown or nearby on this board. I live in the DowntownSouth area (i.e. Michigan St.) It's great being so close to everything.
What kind of dancing do you do? I was really into classical ballet my whole life, but I quit when I was in college. I recently discovered running, and that is my new obsession. LOL
Greetings and welcome! Congrats on everything.
I also try a little gardening - just started my first first squarefoot garden this year. You can see it on my blog http://sarapphotography.blogspot.com/search/label/garden

Thanks gals!
@Diane - I'm right off of Michigan and Delaney - we're probably neighbours! And I grew up doing a little of everything, but mostly classical ballet like yourself! DD and I both dance at Harwood-Watson over by Baldwin Park. Do you dance any now? I'm too much of a sissy for running.
@Sara - I had actually just read your post about gardening! I've got a little bit of a container garden going, and a couple of small beds of butterfly-attracting plants going. Half of them died in the freezes (I forgot to recover them one night - augh!) but the rest are coming back strong. Our HM was in New Zealand and everything was in bloom down there, so I'm totally inspired. Time to get out the trowel again!
@Leela - that would be great, thank you! You can send it to chasing.warblers@gmail.com. It will be great to meet some of you!

Hi Alyssa,
My name is Alyssa too! I live out in Ocoee, and have just planted my first raised bed vegetable garden. I hope it'll do well! I am a teacher too, and would love to learn about online teaching!

Sounds like we are practically neighbors! LOL I'm at La Costa Brava, just east of Oceola on Michigan.
I've taken a few classes off and on since I quit the pre-professional track, but I never really stuck with it. It was hard getting used to what you can do taking class casually, versus what you can do when you're training six days a week, KWIM? I'd definitely like to take classes again sometime when I have more time, but for now, the running fits nicely into my schedule.

Welcome to the board!!
I live in Downtown Orlando too! We live right on the corner of Anderson St and Osceola.
