Why is my laptop running slow?

Not everything I touch, but quite a bit, I'll type something and it'll take about 5-10 seconds to show up, or I'll hover or click on something, and it'll do the same thing. It just started a couple of days ago. I ran Malwarebytes, and my computer is showing completely clean.

Re: Why is my laptop running slow?

  • Do you restart your laptop regularly ? some times my computer dose this when it needs a good restart

  • Is it running slowly in programs like Word, Office, etc.?  When you are using an internet browser?  There are many possible causes for the problem you are describing.  Do you defragment your hard drive on a regular basis?  Do you have enough free space on your hard drive?  Have you noticed any abnormalities with the cooling fan (seems like it's running all the time)?  Overheating can cause substantial reduction in processor speed.

  • Clear your cookies, purge unwanted or needed files and recheck your hard drive for any viruses and when all that fails including restarting from the beginning, call the Geek Squad. But those items should work before you have to call the Geek Squad. HTH

  • How much harddisk space do you have left? Sometimes when you get close to filling it the system will get really slow.

Another thing is to find the activity monitor and see what processes are running and which one takes up most of the memory and processor power.
