National Hurricane Center

Anyone else frequent the NHC website?

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/

Looks like a few other things have popped up in the Atlantic that have potential for turning into a tropical cyclone.  Hopefully nothing else comes up this way.

Re: National Hurricane Center

  • Yes, I watch that site. I like it best for hurricane tracking. Gustav did become a hurricane today. Yesterday our area was in the cone but today it has moved it going into the gulf. Whew.....I will be glad when hurricane season is over.
  • What I learned from Fay was that the predicted areas involved in a tropical storm can change.  Those storms sure like to change their predicted paths. My husband and I still (after living in Florida for 2 years) have not bought a battery operated radio/weather radio.  We were going to buy one right before Fay but the two stores we went to were out of them.  Of course, now would be the time to buy one, not the day before T.S. arrival.  Silly us.
  • I forgot that you haven't been here long. Yes...the storms projected path always change and will change several times until the storm is dead. I have lived in Fl for 30 years on the east coast. Frances and Jeanne in 2004 were the first hurricanes I ever experienced living here. We have threats every year but rarely do they ever turn out to be anything. The press LOVES to make it much more exciting than it actually is.

Having a few supplies around the house doesn't hurt. I dont have anything...haha. I am usually stuck at work if a storm comes. There, they provide us with food, electricity and everything else we need. This year since I am on a desk job, I may not be as lucky if we get a storm so I guess I should be a little prepared.

Hurricanes induce labor too soooo good thing we are not full term right now.....Maybe Steph will pop that baby out a little sooner!

  • That's funny that you mentioned about the hurricanes inducing labor.  Just this past week I listened to a story about that!

I'm glad I'm not full term right now for another reason: We're not ready for Baby A. yet!!  The room is not even CLOSE to being ready.  Basically we have 2 dressers so far. No crib.  Nothing.  Due date is 100 days away, thank goodness!!   :-)    We're doing our 3D ultrasound this weekend.. very exciting!

How about you?  Are you already prepared for the little one?  How do you like the desk job?

  • Ah, crap - change or no change, we're driving to New Orleans this weekend for Greg's family reunion.  Hopefully it tracks farther west.

  • Oh wow!   Will you just be there for the weekend?
  • I pretty much only trust NHC for info - especially being from Miami.

When things become a real threat to us - Weather underground is awesome for radar maps.

  • Yep - there for the weekend in Slidell.  So much can change in a week, but I REALLY don't want to be driving home along the I-10 if there's a hurricane in the Gulf.  I'll be stalking both the NHC and taking the advice of Sara for the radar.

We just registered a few weeks ago, bought our crib this past weekend and thats about it. I keep thinking we have plenty of time, but it is really sneaking up on us...less than 14 weeks at this point. Definitly on the downhill slope!!! I am so excited!

I have been feeling him moving so much lately, I love it. His feet are starting to tickle my bladder. I take it you have a name???? That starts with an A???? Are you sharing yet or waiting til she is here. We are not 100% with our name yet but we do have one picked...we think, just trying to decide if we're really comfortable with going with something "non traditional."

The desk job is ok so far. I do miss my crew and my station. I just started this last week. It is depressing thinking I will be away from there for about 7 months or so. My crew is like my family, I am dear friends with them so at least I still see and talk to them frequently. Right now, I am not doing much...but I am still getting paid my regular salary so that is pretty sweet!

  • I keep watching it. I'm with you...I hope nothing else comes our way!
