Question: How did you tell your families you were pregnant?

For the record, I'm not YET but we've been trying really hard, hahaha, and we anticipate in the next few months, it will "take". So H and I were talking last night about creative ways to tell our immediate family when the time comes.

What did you ladies do?

Re: Question: How did you tell your families you were pregnant?

  • We showed them a really recent photo of myself, DH and MIL and said "You have to see this picture, it's such a nice one of the four of us". MIL "got it" right away, but my SILs took a little while longer to understand.

For my extended family we had a family dinner to show them our new house and took a group pic of everyone. DH had the camera and instead of "Say cheese" he said "Say, Suzieshell is pregnant!". I would say this flopped since about half of my family didn't get it and we had to explain it.

Crossing my fingers for a "congrats to you" soon!

  • When my aunt told the family she was pregnant, it was around Christmas time so she wrapped up a piece of paper in a nice box and had my grandparents open it. Inside it said "One new grandchild. Arrival July 2004." Everyone started screaming; I was on the other side of the room and I thought it was a new car! haha.

I'm actually doing the same thing, trying to think of ways to tell our parents when the time comes. But that won't be for another 3 years or so.

  • I photoshopped a picture of the dogs so it looked like they were wearing shirts saying 'big sister' and 'big brother' then typed 'we're going to be...' at the top. Here's my blog post about it :-)

OMG, your mom is so adorable. Your dad was hilarious studying the picture for dear life! That's so great!

  • My ILs usually watch our dog when we go out of town so we went over and asked if we could schedule them to dog-sit in about 9months.

I don't really remember how we told my parents.  We had to do it over the phone and instead of getting the whole family at once we had to tell one at a time because my mom wasn't home.

Telling my brother and his fiancee was fun though.  They are getting married in August.  I called and said I had a couple of questions about his wedding.  I said "I know that some people are really particular about certain things when it comes to weddings.  Some people are ok with kids at weddings but some people really prefer to have adults only functions.  What is your position on the subject?" When they said they were excpeting a few little ones I asked if I could bring one too.

I love the video clip in your blog post!  That is too cute.  We live hours away from the closest family, so we had to tell everyone over the phone.  My MIL was planning a baby shower for my SIL so we asked how the planning was going and if she was enjoying it.  She said, "umm yea... it's pretty fun." and then we told her that she would be planning another one and she started screaming.  It was really cute.  My side of the family was in complete shock.  I think they still are!

  • I love all these stories, they make my cold little heart melt!

One of the blogs I read had a cute story of how she told her husband by literally putting a bun in the oven while "Knocked Up" was playing on TV, he didn't get it though and she had to straight up tell him.

We aren't pregnant, and I don't foresee it happening soon, but I'm sure we'll do some sort of creative announcement with our families, since DH is an only child and I'm the oldest by 6 years.

  • DH had a show go up in New York that his parents and mine both went to the preview of. So we planned to grab dinner afterwards and it was kind of impromptu that everyone was together so we told them all then. I literally hid my face because I was so nervous to tell them haha.

For our friends, we went out for my birthday and J toasted my birthday but ended with ..aaaaand we're having a baby! He said it so fast some people were like, what?! Haha it was pretty cool. I guess compared to others we're pretty unimaginative though.
