if you own a home in the Raleigh area

Can you recommend a good mortgage broker?  We need someone who will sit down and show us our options.  I *think* we want to use our VA loan, but I want to see if it is the best option or if we should go another way.

TIA!!

Re: if you own a home in the Raleigh area

  • I'm not going to recommend the guy we used last time. He was nice, but not great at getting back to us in a timely manner. :)

But I did want to say that DH and I have used the VA loan twice and didn't have any problems (other than the additional hoops you have to jump through).

  • We used the Amy Bonis group. Even though we were pretty sure we wanted to do a traditional 30 year loan, they reviewed all the options with us along with sample amortization & payment calculations that helped us feel confident in our decision. We saw Brad Benham, but looking at their website it doesn't look like he's still with the company.

  • We have a great mortgage broker with BB&T. We used her for our current house when she was with Suntrust and like her so much we followed her over to BB&T for our home purchase going through next week. let me know if you want her info. She is excellent to work with!

  • I did not like Amy Bomis, she was YUCK in my book, she didn't take the time to sit with us and seemed phony and pushy, and kept giving us high fives.

The very best one we found was Lana Wray with Prime Lending. We were also unsure about using VA or traditional. She is SO awesome, she spent close to 2 years with us preparing us to buy a house, then went through the process with us, spent HOURS with us, she was over and above anything I could have ever asked for in a broker. I highly, highly suggest her. My husband was so anal and obnoxious about the whole process and she never blinked an eye. I would love to refer her to you. She even printed out two loan packages, one VA and one traditional so we could see our options.
