Trellis for Cucumbers

I bought one of those folding veggie cages from Lowe's for my cucumbers. It's only about 4 ft tall, and I'm slightly worried ti may not be tall enough for the cucumbers. Do I need a taller trellis/cage for them? This is my first year planting cucumbers.

ETA:

Picture of the type of veggie cage/support. Mine is larger than this. I didn't fold it into a V shape. Instead I have it length-wise at the back of my raised sq ft garden.

Re: Trellis for Cucumbers

  • I think 4' will be tall enough.  They'd probably get bigger if you had more room for them to grow, but I don't think it will influence your harvest.  You may just have to do some training.
  • I used a tomato cage upside down last year and it worked fine for the cukes.
  • That looks like it will be fine. Last summer I grew my cucumber at the back of my garden along a chain link fence. They grew like weeds! Make sure to trim back any vines that you don't want taking over your garden.
