i get so irritated at DH and his sisters. my IL's house is small and MIL is always unhappy with the lack of space. i try telling her that it'd be so much better if she got rid of the kids things in the spare bedrooms. i think its one of those things where that stuff has just sat there for so long, she kind of forgets about it. we're talking about highschool & college textbooks, baseball cards, trophies, stuffed animals, all sorts of framed high school pictures (seriously, why do they need to display prom pics still?!?), etc... it just bothers me because its clutter, looks messy and i don't understand why no one takes care of it.
i have a couple things at my parents, but its boxed up in the attic and out of the way.
Re: how much of childhood belongings are still at your parents?
My room at my parents house is slowly starting to no longer "my room." I guess in a way it alway will be, but my stuff is slowly clearing out. About each time I'm home, my mom has me go through something else to see if I really want it. Usually I'll toss it or bring it back with me.
This year for Christmas, mom told me that I would be receiving all of my Belkie Bears bc I'm not ready to part with them yet, but she's ready too.
Not much. Or at least that's what I think, but it seems like my parents are always bringing more with them everytime I see them. I don't know where it's all coming from. A lot of it is crap that my mom is all "Oh noooooo, don't get rid of THAT! You made/wore/played with that when you were xage, it's soooooo precious". So then I feel guilty and keep it.
I got a Belkie bear one year as a kid. Too funny!
I don't have anything left at my parents house - most everything came to Charlotte when they moved about 3+ years ago from our childhood home into a new house. I also chunked a LOT of crap like notes from high school. Not sure why I held on to those.
I have about eight of them. DH doesn't know that our house will soon be home to them.
i have like 1 box of stuff still at my mom's, in the attic - everything else she made me go through and keep or trash when she moved out of our childhood home ~4 years ago.
My parents moved about 9 years ago and my brother and I were told that we could pick up our stuff, we could let Mom sell it a garage sale (and we'd get the $$) or it was tossed.
DH still has some stuff at his parents but they haven't moved. What they did make him take out of the house is now in boxes in our garage. One day I will "surprise" him with a purge of his old pillows and books.
