Orange Oil Insecticide?

Has anyone used orange oil as an insecticide? I'm having a SERIOUS ant problem everywhere (including our bedroom where no food or water is kept).  Our garden has been taken over and I'm not excited about using a commercial spray in addition to concern for the safety of our indoor cat and dog.  I read about a mixture of orange oil, vinegar and rubbing alcohol and wondered if anyone had tried it.

If you've tried it, how well did it work? What measurements did you use?

Re: Orange Oil Insecticide?

  • Terro products are safe for kids and pets--and they work. It's just borax mixed with a sweetener.
  • Thanks.  I've tried the borax and sugar, jam, peanut butter, etc.  They work, but don't deter them from coming back.  Some of the ants preferred the peanut butter, others the jam.

I went to a specialty garden center today that had a money-back guarantee with one of their products.  I'm giving that a try and adding a healthy dose of vinegar sprayed around the counters before bed.
