XP: Orange Oil as Insecticide?

Has anyone used orange oil as an insecticide? I'm having a SERIOUS ant problem everywhere (including our bedroom where no food or water is kept).  Our garden has been taken over and I'm not excited about using a commercial spray in addition to concern for the safety of our indoor cat and dog.  I read about a mixture of orange oil, vinegar and rubbing alcohol and wondered if anyone had tried it.   If you've tried it, how well did it work? What measurements did you use?

Re: XP: Orange Oil as Insecticide?

  • Our new lawn guy will be using some type of cedar oil solution as an insecticide outside. We have a horrible mosquito/chigger problem. If you google it, several products and some info comes up about it. Apparently, a lot of our neighbors use it, too. Can't wait!!

  • We use Orange Guard.  works pretty well.
    nothing
  • i used orange guard last year for our annual spring ant problem....it did absolutely nothing.  i had to resort back to the Raid ant baits that i had been trying to avoid.  last year i tried to really pay close attention to how they were getting in, and caulked every spot i could.  so far *knock on wood* i haven't seen any yet this year......i really don't want to jinx it!

  • I just read that for an indoor ant problem, if you put little piles of cornmeal around where the ants come/go they will gravitate toward that.  They eat it and can't digest it so they die.  May take a few days but it's worth a shot.  Not sure how to help w/the outside problem though!
