it is on at 9pm for seattle on kcts.
I'm watching it... I knew this wasn't a new show, I've heard bits of it before. The guy who said he drove a few hundred miles to buy the free-range pork -- I heard that quoted in a debunking of the locavore movement as a way to reduce carbon emissions. :P
But even when I heard that I knew that carbon emissions weren't the only thing to worry about -- the E. coli killing children, the poor minorities with a 50% diabetes rate, the big companies using immigrants and making deals so that the police don't raid and shut down all of their operations.
But this show is a few years old, and Smithfield still operates the same way. Nothing changes and nobody cares.
EDIT: oh, and this guy saying he's thrilled when Wal-Mart gets into organics. Wal-Mart gets into organics for the same reason that Clairol bought the Body Shop. They don't want that ethical corner of the market to escape, so they create something to keep those people happy, and they keep on going with the rest of their unethical business. As long as the money is going to the same fat cats, and not to the competition, that's all they want.
Just finished watching. That was really well done! Much better than the movie version of Fast Food Nation, for sure.
I really hope that more people watch this film. It's sad to know that so many people are left in the dark about the details of what they are consuming.
