So I signed up for a House Party for UL (Underwriters Laboratory). It is supposed to be a "green" party and for exploring environmentally friendly stuff.
I got my big box of party supplies today, I was so psyched.. and it is awful.
There is a big stack of reusable bags, and sponges too - which is great -
But there are
- 15 plastic spray bottles - ugh - more plastic? Couldn't they send maybe just the spray tops and make them fit on plastic soda bottles or something? (The bottles I think are supposed to be for making your own homemade cleansers)
- 15 dusting clothes - thoroughly, individually wrapped in plastic.. feels so unnecessary
- 15 funnels - ??? For what, getting stuff in the spray bottles? Seriously?
I am so disappointed. I feel like I got a big box of wasteful stuff. Honestly, I have stacks of reusable bags, and that's fine, most people could prob use an extra one, but the rest of the stuff seems a little counter-environmental. Instead of maybe all the plastic they could have had little recycled paper index cards with some eco-friendly "recipes" for housecleaners, insecticides, etc, since I'm going to prob print out little recipes on my own for the party.
Part of it is I'm thinking it is logo placement, since the logos are plastered all over the spray bottles etc. Oh well.
Re: Sort of disgusted (HouseParty.com/earth day)
As a person who makes my own cleaners (and made dozens of batches for cleaning our formerly disgusting house--PIB-- when we bought it), I'd love the spray bottles and funnels. As for the cloths, I am not a fan of using virgin fabric as a rag--we use trashed clothes, towels, etc. But, it is a step in the right direction.
I love your idea for a spray top that would fit on a soda bottle!
A big ew to logo placement. I hate branded things (though for a promotional party that makes sense).
Hmm, I'm not so sure what the funnels are for either! I mean, do people really have that hard a time pouring stuff in a spray bottle?
The rest of the stuff doesn't seem so bad though. Too bad the dusting cloths are packaged in plastic, seems pointless, but even though the spray bottles are plastic, they don't just get tossed. I don't drink soda, so if they were for soda bottles I'd have to go buy one, and probably wouldn't and ultimately the top would just be something I lose or toss.
I do! I always use a funnel. I am kind of clumsy and the funnel get both wet and dry and wet ingredients in the bottle without spills.
