What's a nice local July getaway for DH and I?

I want to plan a local getaway for my hubby and I. I don't want to travel too far so I was thinking of Palm Springs, San Diego or Newport/Huntington Beach. We don't want to spend more than $500-600 for hotel and food for 3 days and 2 nights. I know it's a small budget but we're saving up for our biggest purchase next year! Any suggestions my fellow nesties? Along with your suggestions include some activity ideas (i.e. whale watching, massages, gondola cruises, etc.). The activities are not included in the $500-600 budget. Thanks!

Re: What's a nice local July getaway for DH and I?

  • Well for those places I would say The JW Marriot in Desert springs...it has a nice spa but July will be HOT :)

July isn't whale watching time as far as I know??? But if you go to New Port you could do a harbour cruise or dinner cruise. I like just walking around Balboa Island and having dinner.

An idea that you didn't mention is Catalina Island. Its quieter than the other destinations but I like it in the summer. You can do tours of the island, sit on the beach, get massages, have some drinks :)

  • how about wine tasting in solvang?  its super cute and romantic!  http://www.solvangusa.com/  That's where hubby and i fell in love :)
  • Trust me when I tell you that Palm Springs is too hot in July to enjoy unless you do nothing but lay IN the pool.  San Diego is nice and has some free activities which can compensate for the hotel prices. Downtown has free museums, etc.

Are you outdoorsy? Big Bear is great and it is "off season" for them so you get much better prices. Lots of little shops to browse, the lake, the trails, etc.

     Either way, have fun :)
