Romantic getaways

I am looking for a nice affordable place to go for my first anniversary. Any suggestions?

  • We would like to go somewhere that we have not been before and site-see a little bit. But since its our first anniversary, we want a little romance in the trip.

  • Superior/Duluth area!!!!  My DH and I went in our dating months and it was wonderful.  They are so many different things to see, waterfalls, the lake front, ect.  We went on a boat ride on the harbor, a train ride in Duluth, we walked on the beach.  I told my DH that I want to go back again!  I have to say it was romantic and fun altogether and cheap!!!!!

  • I think Lake Geneva is a lot of fun.  I don't have a hotel recommendation as we always stay at my sister's place, but there are fantastic restaurants, galleries, you can ride the boats, do a wine tasting - there's so much to do there.

  • Sundara Spa in Wisconsin Dells. It is an adult only resort. Soooo peaceful. Staff is so nice, everyone walks around in robes, they have a great breakfast, nice pool area, peaceful music around the whole hotel. The rooms are amazing!  It is nestled in the woods. Very romantic atmosphere. It is somewhat pricy. H and I stayed there for 3 nights after our wedding. We can't wait to go back. It was worth every penny.

  • Any suggestions for outside of Wisconsin?

  • My DH and I honeymooned at the Riu Ocho Rios (Ocho Rios, Jamaica). It's a huge resort and there's a lot to do in the area/ We climbed Dunns River Waterfall and enjoyed a romantic bamboo-raft ride for two; others talked about horseback rides on the beach, scuba diving and shopping to name a few. We stayed a week, if I had to guess, travel hotel and transportation was around $1200. I've also heard the Riu Negril (Jamaica) is fun too.
