So i'm helping to plan a shower for SIL but we both live in other states.
We're renting a room at a historic building back home in NY $100. The bride loves purple and loves to cook, she's allergic to seafood.I have no clue what kind of theme to run with for a shower held in the summer.
I need ideas for : theme, centerpiece, food selection, nonalcoholic drink
for food with a budget of $400 i'm going to order from catering from cosi or le pain quotidien..what 3 items would you select from either place (salad, nibbly and dessert). we have wine covered by another sister
1) what theme?
2) what menu items

Re: Bridal Shower: Ideas needed
the "theme" can simply be "shes having a baby"
since she loves purple, you can do a royal theme. she can be queen for a day.
Okay, first the menu would depend on the type of people that are going to be there. One place offers more traditional foods that most people will like while the other serves more fancy type foods with different and unique ingredients/combinations that not everyone will go for.
If the guests are into that fancy-schmancy stuff, then I would go with:
Salad - Goat Cheese & Arugula Salad
Nibbly - Prosciutto & Mozzarella di Bufala, Sun-dried Tomato and Pesto
Dessert - Dessert Platter so everyone can pick something they like!
If the guests aren't fancy schmancy, then I would go with these choices from Cosi:
Salad - Caesar
Nibbly - Grilled Chicken T.B.M.
Dessert - Dessert Platter to give guests a variety
As for themes....typically, you go with the wedding colors but you certainly don't have to be traditional by any means! Because you're coming from out of state, I would keep it simple. You could do purple if that's what she wants (you don't necessarily have to have a theme per se).
You could dress the tables in a pretty print purple/white fabric (something inexpensive...maybe floraly or some sort of toile). Get some cute little candles/holders to scatter about and find little white flower pots or buckets and put fresh violets in them for table decor (and make them double as give-aways for prizes).
I don't know, specifically, what you're looking for but maybe go with a garden theme of some sort to play off of the venue (it sounds like it'd be pretty for a garden party)! I don't know what the bride's style is or the people coming but that may make a difference as well. Let us know if you have questions or need more ideas...I'm sure I can come up with more once I know whether I"m on the right track!
I thought the same thing! ha! I would stick to some sort of purple/gray or purple/white pattern: polka dots, plaid, paisly. toile and run with it. Maybe it's everyting in white/silver/gray and with purple accent ribbons. HTH!
thanks ladies! It appears that the location has catering that we can use at a reasonable cost- yeh! I will use your ideas for room decor..I like the idea of everything purple since the linens are all white...
Thanks again ladies
