Coffee maker cleaner... is there a homemade recipe w/ vinegar?

Or baking soda or something?

Instead of purchasing store bought chemicals.

Nutmeg, cilantro, sage, mint, thyme... these are a few of my favorite things! Visit The Nest!Visit The Nest! We have four children; one left us too soon.

  • You can run straight white vinegar through it, it doesn't smell fantastic but it'll be sparkling clean. Follow it with two or three cycles of just water to rinse it.

I have always just done this.

  • Yup. No secret. Run some vinegar through it, rinse it well. Works like a charm.

  • Swirling lemon wedges (squeeze in the juice then drop in the rind), salt, and ice is another trick for after the baking soda and vinegar. It loosens up any remaining stuck on goop and freshens the smell of the pot.

This is what we did too.  Works great.  We've switched to a french press and think the coffee tastes so.much.better.  Plus there's no filters to purchase or waste, and the grinds go straight into the compost bin.  Coffee grinds make awesome compost!

  • You can even try diluted vinegar first, like mostly water with a bit of vinegar. Plain vinegar is really volatile and will vaporize a lot -- you won't be able to stand being in the house and I have an idea that too much of it evaporates. Use something like one part vinegar and two-three parts water. I think that's how my mom did it.
